Thats about right. A standard 1000watt HPS puts out 130,000 lumens. Oh well, I guess that pretty much throws your theory out the window.
Of course, there is always the heat advantage. If you hung one or two of those in the middle of your garden with your HPS/MH on top, you could get some good easy side growth for more bud sites.

Ok, I found this, and your right, they do put out a lot more lumens. However, I still think this is the solution for the covert grower like myself. Low power bills, hard for IR since it is low heat. I certainly could not put a small MH/HPS in my grow box, too much heat. My box is a single plant box so 8900 lumens is more then perfect.

Thoughts welcomed!

I agree it is perfect for those growing 1-2 plants, but anything more WILL require a larger light or more Envirolights. They are kinda pricey though. Not nearly as much as HID, but still a pretty penny. You could probably get an equal amount (lumen speaking) of flouros for the same price, but the Envirolight is pretty nifty. It may work great for like a cloning/seedling room.

I think flo's are cheaper, na?

the flourex light is ~25$ and emits ~9000lumens

So there you have it folks! Envirolights may seem good, but go with flouros! Sorry mist420, I really hate to ruin hopes and shatter dreams, but I believe your theory is officially caput.

I suppose it is point of view as well. Some of us are not lucky enough to have a signifigant other that agrees with growing.

Wifey sets specific guidelines: cant be noticable by visitors and such if they get to snooping bla bla bla. She wont let me convert a room for it either even though we have 2 empty bedrooms.

And I dont care what High Times June issues says, you cant put a MH/HPS in these things, the heat is too much unless you want to grow all males! Even with an EL in an a/c'd room I only get down to 80 or so in the box (1ft wide X1 ft long X 4ft high), it's 95o outside by the way. But I got it managed and the babies are doing good. I also notice no stretching to the light.

So with the EL, I get low heat, high lumens per plant and wifey off my back.

But wait.....I just thought....do you need all those lumens b/c you are getting them from a light that realy does not provide the "closest to sunlight" spectrum like Enviro claims it does according to the graphs!

Does more color equal less needed lumens? How many lumens does the sun actully put out for the average plant? Does the theory of "Today, at any store, you can purchase those twistie floro's that provide light equal to say a 100 watt regular light bulb for only 40 watts worth of power" apply to lumens as well?

And most importantly! Why the hell are my plants doing so well??!?!?

Also, actual lumens absorbed by a plant depends on distance to plant. EV's can be placed "inches" from plants, not so with HPS/MH's.

Ok, I am gonna refer everyone to the chart below. Please observe the fluorscent color chart compared to the EV color chart.

Seems to me floro's are a tad lacking for 9000 lumens.

I like your attitude!
The reason your plants are doin so good is because they are getting more than enough lumens. The recommended amount of lumens per square foot is 5000-7000. Since your are getting almost 9000, they are really happy.
The color has nothing to do with lumens. It could be a perfect replica of the sun spectrum, but the lumen output is what matters.
I totally agree with your situation. It is really good for stealth growingm but like I said, not good for more than like 2 or 3 plants.

Usually flouros are either cool or warm white, and they usually run about the same price.
