It is the opinion of me and many engineers, including the ones that engineered fluorecent bulbs that the lumens are concentrated in the green area of the wavelength not the red and blue. The reason is because human eyes are manyttimes more sensitive to green light compared to red and blue. this is why they look so bright and measure so bright with your light meter. They however high the lumen rating dont put out a very high output in the necessary blue and red spectrums compared to the light they were designed to be intense in outputing. Final summary: they were designed for your eyes to think they are bright not your plants.

Hello RegularGuy.

I completely understand that concept that you mention, These bulbs are putting out about 4000 lumens each ( 16,000 total )

But the difference in there bulbs and normal fluos, is that these have been designed for plant growth. ( I am actually working with and testing them for the manufacturer , if they only knew I what I was growing :-) . They are full spectrum lights. So also to make up for the tons of Green, we added 2 - 3000k bulbs as well ( they are full spectrum as well, but with a lot more red then any other color. )

We are also working on a more HPS type bulb now. Most HPS bulbs I looked at are 2100k - 2200k and CRI of 21 - 25. the new bulb will be 2100k at 4000 lumens, with a CRI of 96! The high CRI rating should ( in theory so far ( CRI makes it brighter, the closer to 100, the closer to natural sunlight it is ) ) make up for low amount of lumens ..

We will see :-) Will let every one know the results..

Regards.

hey morphious,

did you mean to say the son-agro is much brighter?

it looks very much brighter: nearly 18% at 1.5 times the distance!

Good to see..

....you have quiter sounding lights now morphious....

...but the ballast shouldn't be that noisey. You say Sun Agro bulb? What ballast brand where you using? Top Quality?

My two SunLight Supply ballasts make a light humming sound, but is isn't too intense.

JoséHempSeed - the Son Agro is much brighter if you masure from the same distance from the light, but I am measureing from the closest I can have the light to the plant without burning them. ( and I have burned them a little with each, then backed off by about an inch on fluos and 3 inches on the HPS, and the burn stopped, so I found the minamum didstance I could have my lights )

IonAccel - The HPS is a Radiant from HyroFarm .. and because the HPS adn ballast are in a bathroom, because of all the tile, the Hum just builds up and bounces off of everythinhg..

Regards.

regularguy,

If you look at the chart below closely (its hard to see at a glance) the green of HPS and MH's are equal to an EVL's. However, and this is the big part, EVL's put out ALL the colors equaly.

In other words, EVL put out as much of every color as an HPS or MH put out in green.

If you are refering to this chart than maybe you should reread my first post and take a look at this link
WHERE THE SPECTRAL DISTRIBUTION CHARTS CAME FROM and realize that the company that is selling these envirolites is showing you a spectral BS chart. Whether they work, who knows? But it isnt because the light spectum is the same as the graphs that you were touting in your thread. My guess is that you can replicate your results with CFL tubes that cost $8 to $15 each.

ok, morph, now i see what you mean.

but you need to see that the heat is something you need to deal with - if you can succesfully dissipate the heat, the extra light is magic to your plants! it's the light brightness that's really the key...more light = more energy = bigger budz. and hid's make the most light.

on a more philosophical note, it's interesting to note how steadfast and loyal growers are to their lights! i remember...way back when...we used mercury vapor lamps...they were the BEST...everybody knew it...and EVERYBODY who knew ANYTHING used them...then the other hid's came around...hps...mh...and today, i've heard some say you CAN'T grow under mv's...

wantfreshnuggz is starting to vegetate.
Is it that

the plants will not turn out quite as good as plants grown with MH or HPS? What was the quality of the budz you've seen grown with MV?
