Is it really cheap lighting????
permalink

Don't take this the wrong way plz... All this talk about 1600 lumens, 2000 lumens, 10,000 lumens! wow. My one light is 125,000 lumens and puts out a spectrum that is best for growing.

As for cost?

Type_________________________Lumens_____Cost____$/Lumen
========================================================
MS 1000 Watt Agrosun Gold____125,000____$340____0.00272
65 Watt - Model ???____________6,825_____$34____0.00498
Florex 9027____________________1,800_____$34____0.01889

So the Florex costs almost SEVEN times more!!! What a deal!

I couldnt' find real data on the 65 watt version... but even these numbers from this thread shows that it cost twice as much!

the lights are a cheap alternative,but over time h.p.s. lights are a better value because of the yields.

my conclusion is theyre much better than 4' flo. for sidelights because theyre compact.the floods a good veggie lite.its also something to get you by until you gain the knowledge & exp. to warrant investing $$$ for quality lighting.it does seem hps is best,but Fluorex does well against mh.and hey, can always use em for sides after a grow or two.k9 thanx,i WAS getting carried away.oh, they also kick ass in your fav. houselamp.im out!!!!

Okay,we all know that HPS is the best,but it is refreshing to have an alternative to crappy 4' flos at an affordable price. If one were to get the $19.95 deal at Costco, it would be 3.42c/lumen. Also, these lights carry a 2 year warranty, and the replacement bulbs are only $10 after that. It is possible that LoA will come out with more powerful versions in the future, too. Also, according to my Philips lighting guide, your bulb only averages 112,000 lumens over its lifespan. This means that near the end of its life it will be 99,000 lumens. The 125,000 only lasts the first few hours, then bulb degradation begins taking place. Thus, 112,000 lumens/$340 makes 3.29c/lumen. That is a little closer
Another big cost to consider is electricity use,where the lamps appear to be pretty close.
I just figured I would throw out some numbers of my own. I think the main point that was being made was that these are good beginner lights and actually outperform a 70w HPS that costs twice as much!! When the 1000W Florex fixture comes out, we'll talk more.

well jesus if we had a 1000 watter flow..THEN ya could compare..in theory it would be actually putting out like 3000 watts which is why they haevnt made one yet...here let me show you some of the stuff thats on their web page.....

http://www.lightsofamerica.com/fluorex.htm

Fluorex is 72% more efficient than mercury vapor and 40% more efficient than high pressure sodium.

Does It Cost A Lot More Than Mercury Vapor And High Pressure Sodium?

No, in fact, although Fluorex is as bright as Mercury Vapor and brighter than High Pressure Sodium, it costs about the same as Mercury Vapor and is up to 50% less than High Pressure Sodium lighting.

Why Does Fluorex Offer Superior Light Quality To Other Types Of Lighting?

Fluorex Fluorescent white light has a color rendering index (CRI) of 84 compared to 20 for Mercury Vapor and High Pressure Sodium lighting. With sunlight providing a CRI of nearly 100, Fluorex brings out the true colors and makes it easier to focus on objects at night.

How Can A 65watt Fluorex Yardlight Possibly Be As Bright As A 175watt Mercury Vapor Light?

The Fluorex lamp technology uses a 6500K color corrected lamp referred to as a blue RICH light source, but to the eye is seen as a brilliant white light. Although Mercury Vapor has a color temperature of 6800K (Kelvin), it is not color corrected, and therefore is referred to as a blue poor light source. High Pressure Sodium is also not color corrected. It emits an orange light and is also referred to as a blue poor light source. Since the eye is most sensitive to blue RICH light sources, Fluorex creates superior brightness levels.

------------------------------
just as reference...we are comparing these things to 70 watters NOT big ass 1000 watt color corrective son agro blah pedro lights...just keeping it in perspectives

Hi folks;
just logged into your disc. and thought I'd offer my 2 cents. I've used compact floros. before for veg. growth and found they worked excellant in that capacity (27w GE with
biax tech. in a "drop light"). About a year ago I got a
250w HPS from litemanu.com delivered to my door for $240.
In addition to the low price I like the fact that I was able to remove the ballast from the hood and convert it to a remote ballast system in under an hour with stuff around the house.

Back to compact floros. I found that the ge biax worked better than loa. It seemed bluer and the plants were a darker green under it than under the loa brand that had replaceable bulbs.
