well i was thinking on something like this, leave 1 end open and on the other end use it for all the mechanics, the air would be something like a vacumcleaner sucking air past the bulb and out the box. this light will be hung vertical and in a box, with 4 plants around it.

i think you will have it easy with that tube when exhausting it if you hang it verticle because some heat will rise into the duct and will make it easier to vent not a lot easier but a small degree

ok here is a pic of the box now the only thing that will change is the tube and vent pipe, and a rope and pulley instead of the two cross braces

yahoo butterbean. a vertical hanger
im going to be hanging 5 lights with the same thing. but a straight clynder of tempered glass.

did u also know u can use clear poly pipe ? they can with draw alot of heat , so as long as your fans dont break its safe....
but with glass your 100% more safer.

looking good dudes

I made one out of glass left one end open and I can touch the glass with my bare hand and not get burned. I've got a 400 watt hps and a 245cfm fan sucking the heat off the bulb. You just have to improvise when you DIY. I'll post a pic when I shut it down later.

your set up sounds like what i have in mind (sky) i can tell everyone this that ever since i started the vertical light with no hood the plants are growing faster and the leaves are really close togeter hardly no space. so with the vent tube in place along with this light set up i fell like i have made a big step in the right direction

hey butterbeen
i still don't understand how you keep the bulb centered in the glass??? how did you fix that so the air can still flow easily???

next step put the fan on it and let it rip, well i got some little touch ups like vent tap and some cosmedices to make it look good but for the most part thats how ill put it in the box. it will be a vertical so air will come streat up past the bulb and out the box, or i could put some more tube on it go on down to the floor and put the fan there blowing air past the bulb . but i think that might take away some of the much needed light. any idears????
