It readily depends on the glass and its thickness ..

The benefits of almost NOHEAT far outway a loss of max 10-15% light ..

Thus meaning you can have a 1000w or even a few in a small cabinet if you have the proper intake and outtake for it

So you can infact have a hell of alot more light that usuall ..

BTW- I got all these pics from overgrow .. I havent made it myself .. But the results from their discussions are very good

Many members have made theirs for as little as $40 - While online versions cost anywhere from $150-300

The glass is pyrex .. It came from a Bread-Baking kit im fairly sure

RC- Main reason i didnt put it in lighting is cause its exacly 50% Lighting and 50% Construction hehe But i get your point ..

Im thinking about making a cooltube though .. cause no-one so far i dont think has on HC yet !!

No problem bro

Ill look around .. Ide say it wouldnt be too hard to find..

Just make sure the glass is a few inches wider than the bulb so theres suffiecent air movement to keep it cool.

Ide check out a few places .. Bunnings/Hardware stores .. possibly Kmart and Copperart . .

Just ask for Tempered Glass .. That can handle hot temperatures

Lamp glass covers would work too ..

The glass would be the hardest piece to get - Everything else u can get from a hardware store ..

And within 30-45mins it would be completed

If i can find suitable glass im going to make one and put a 1000watter in my box

Aslong as u have cool air getting sucked from outside through the glass and back outside .. you could have a few 1000w in a small space and have no heat problems at all, cause the heat wont be going into the box or where your growing .. but rather straight outside

This opens up small-space growers to MASSIVE BUD potentials if done right

Knore thats awesome! Thanks for posting those pics!! Ive been dreaming about building one of those tube style reflectors every since I saw one on a hydro site. Im dying to put a 430HPS in my cabinet, but I cant deal with the heat, and I never could think of where to find a glass tube! Bake a Round, huh?

About the light problem, Have you seen the one with the built in reflector? Or, build a long trapezoid shape from sheet metal and attach a thinner piece of glass on the bottom, like a standard light reflector. Only it would be longer and thinner, so that the air would travel directly over the bulb and back outside.

Thanks

Hi Guys:

Great thread Knore.

For those of you that are worried about the glass tube blocking some of the light.
No worries mates.
The 10 to 20% that is blocked is mostly in the ultra violet spectrum.
That's why green houses work. The light spectrum your plants need the most, make it through the glass.

Later.

hehehe hell yeah man.

topday i invested in a very neat little ' digital timer '

i can program my lights on a 24/7 basic how awesom is that !

and that cool tube glass i will look for tommrow. what kind of fans would i need?

i guess i could actually take the time to figure it out myself. lol

hummm i cant wait. but then were still gonna gave to have ventilations for the actual plants.

so still the 'in n out' setup for the main area.

wouldnt the cool air effect the actual globe? or not ?
