mylar, why o why?

curious, not sure where this hould go so i put it here, why do peop use mylar for reflection when it reflects 90-99% of light and costs an ass and an arm. Why not ue mirrors that reflect 100%, are more directable, and heck of a lot cheaper? just my .02

well brother I can tell you why not use mirrors. Mirrors are made of melted silicons. they turn green when they go molten when they solidify (cool)
they remain tinted green...now you may think this great but remember that light you see is what part of white light that is reflected from the object so if you see green that that is what the plant will see..... now since a plant reflects green light i submit to you that green light is a waste of energy for a plant and so a plant cannot or will not use it good luck bro mylar is a better choice

You can buy mylar survival blankets (4x6 ft. I believe) for like 2 dollars in the sporting goods dept. of Walmart. It's not that expensive.
Mirrors do not reflect the light in a very productive manner. You need something that will diffuse the light...spread it out. Mirrors just reflect a focused beam back.

Thanks for posting that they are what make a survival blanket. I have two in my cars survival pack in the emergency kit it comes with. Saved me a few bucks. Dont they look just like tin foil? how come tin foil doesnt work?

Tin foil works...

and if you use it, use the matte (not the shiny side). Again, this is to prevent hot spots; the "dull" side diffuses the light a lot more.

A lot of people prefer mylar. It's really easy to work with. You can put it up with double-sided tape, or I saw one grower who used the adhesive velcro. Go for it, man! It's all good! -- FireAngel

Less fast food, more vegetables, can't say I love fruit, tho. More self discipline and control, less eating drinking and being merry as if the Apocalypse could happen tomorrow, tho it still could, haha. Less newspaper and more books to remediate my pessimistic global outlook. Fewer cigarettes, with more time for productive vocal, guitar, and bass rehearsal. This is my plan to earn both my halo and my wings of fire in the new year.

tin foil doesnt work all that great

it works but it reflects light just as much as yellow paper

so painting flat white will actually reflect more then tin foil will

go with the emergency blankets they are easy and cheap
