Hey look here, there is a nice foot candle / lux chart worth reading and mabe even adding to your graph. It would be neat to have a grand unified lighting chart! http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.ht...ensity%20Chart

Ok here is what I have done.
I calibrated my meter to sunny 16 rules and my meter is dead on.
Thease are the readings for the 1000 watter.
48" = F 8.5 about 3250 lumens (I think?)
36" = F11.5 witch is half stop under sunny 16 witch gives us about 7500 lumens to the leaf of the plant.
32" = F 11.9
28" = F 16.1 (Same as noon day sun)
24" = F16.6
20" = F22.0 (Double noon day sun or 20,000 lumens)
16" = F22.5
12" = F 32.2 (Four times noon day sun or 40,000 lumens.

What this data tells me is that with the 1000 watt light, there is a narrow range where the lumens are ideal. About 36 inches to about 26 inches from light is where we want the plant to be. Can you say Side lighting! The flourex lights seem perfect for side lighting applications. My bulb is only a week old and is a 110,000 lumen Agrosun. My reflector is a hydrofarm. I bought it because it was the smallest reflector I have seen that could fit a 1000 watt bulb. Since I bought it I have heard that it is a very good reflector.
This means that this light can only cover a 9sq ft garden at optimum lumens. If the garden were taken out to 16 sq feet, the plants at the edge at 48 inches are only getting light levels about 1/3rd the levels as the noon day sun and the center of the garden ends up suffering as well. I do think however a 14sq/ft garden under a 1K light is a very nice garden but 9 sq/ft would be better!

very good about the light meter, then our numbers should match up very well! I am using a hand held minolta meter. It does not give EV but thats ok.

Xzoomd sorry for the late reply just went to sleep early yesterday.

the light i have yea its the envirolite i got from a hydro store in dallas(i was there over the weekend) and it was like a little less than a 100 it was like 95 or something including tax.

to jose nope no meter thats why i wanted to get those reading if possible from one of u guys. imma ask a friend who mayors in photography to see if i can get the reading for u guys for those two kinds of lamps.

my setup is two flourex shop lights and one envirolite in the middle all 3 hanging on top and shop lights on the sides for red. i have 4 ladys there and are looking pretty good except some leaves are curling(ph related already working on it) well the thing is that i want to use a HID light this time for the 12/12 period of light. The last time i got a decent harvest(a little on the weak side but good one with the flouros) that thing is that i just wanted to ask u guys about a good HID light to get real buds this time hehehe anyone? good price wise and quiality of course.

this week im also getting a digital camera imma send u guys some pics of the progress with flouros and envirolite.

p.s. i have ladys begging to be flowered so imma have to get that HID light very soon(they are 4 weeks old) help me out in getting a good light at a good price im thinking on spending between 200 and 250 or something around that price range.

hey jag, it sounds like you're going pretty good there. i'm anxious to see the pics...
as far as a good hid, i like the philips son agro, its 430W, but works great in a 400W setup. it'll give you both the blue and the red,,,otherwise, go for the most lumen you can work with, like teach's 1000W...you've got to consider the electric bill, the heat (the big lamps get HOTTTTT), etc...but the buds will be phenomonal...

schoolteacher, that site is pretty good, i've bookmarked it to use in my own photography...the part about the 'nuclear detonations' ev was something else!!!...i don't think i want THAT much light... side lighting with the kW??? wow, you ARE a perfectionist!!!!
ps what was the aperture you used for those readings???

Yea I got a kick out of the nuclear detonations and EV as well.
I was thinking about one of those lights of america floro shop lights for side lighting. My light meter is completely electronic. I set the asa, and shutter and it will read out the F stop. From that I can calculate all the values I need. And yes I do have a tendency to be a little perfectionistic.

I was just wondering if anyone figured the penatration capabilities of the 65 watt loa. I would like to use a home-made parabolic type reflector and place in closet for side lighting.

The question is how effective will they be? Will they only benifit the first 12-18 inches?

Thanks Again for this illuminating thread.

Hi Grow Bros:

Well I went ahead & bought a light meter. It gives readings in foot candles not lumens so I did the conversion to lumens for the figures below. 1 foot candle = 12.6 lumen.

Here we go, I did measurements with1 light on & then both lights on & here are the results.
All measurements were taken below the center of the bulb.
I guess I screwed the conversion up so I came back & edited it.
Thanks to Powercow9 These #s are now correct.
1' = 3,780 lumen
10" = 8,820
8" =11,340
6" = 15,120
4" = 22,680
2" = 37,800
1" = 56,700
at the bulb off the scale.

With 2 lights on.
These measurements were taken directly between the bulbs. I'm sure the reason the lumens start going down in comparison to 1 bulb is that the closer I got the lights were to the side of the meter & the meter was pointing at the center of the reflector not one of the bulbs.
Here are the results.
1' = 11,025 lumens
10" = 15,750
8" = 18,900
6" = 22,680
4" = 31,500
2" = 37,080
1" = 41,580

Here are some measurments I took at the lighting store of some other lights for comparison.
These probably are not very accurate as there were other lights on in the store. Nothing real close but I'm sure anough to skew the readings slightly.

400 watt HPS at 1' = 28,350
600 watt at 2' = 63,000 anything closer than 2' caused the needle to go off the scale.
1000 watt at 2' = 65,520 not much more than a 600 watt.
40 watt floro tube at 1' = 2,268
40 watt floro tube at 1" = 4,662

Hope this helps to figure things out.
I'll be watching to see what you brainiacs come up with.
BTW, Here is a pic of the light meter I used. It has a photovoltaic cell that reads the light intensity.

Later Grow Bros.
86.
