The process of photosynthesis is not the same as photorespiration and in saying that you cant not compare the two. In other words plants have to take in carbon dioxide and exspire oxygen. They do this by taking in carbon dioxide through the leaves during the light period and using it as part of the photosynthesis stage. During the dark period the plants have to release what hasn't been used as oxygen again through the leaves. Try holding your breath? Then why do you make your plants do the same? huh

OK, I have read this thread and also the 'eternal debate' thread.

For me to decide I need to know some things.

In what activities do the plants partake during nite hours?
I have read something about photorespiration?? and the hormone at the tips that migrates to the roots.
Are there more?
And more importantly how do they effect potency and similar issues, like veg growth.

(Who knows, maybe the plants would perfer 24/0 and hate putting up with a dark cycle)

Maybe the plants do these things in the dark because it isn't doing other things. What I mean here is there may not be a 'need' to do these activities in 24/0.

The suprise to me is something I have been wondering about for a long time and haven't seen addressed in either of these threads.
Why are all the debates about 24 hour totals. (I know 24/0 isn't really based on a 24 hr cycle)

Why not a 34/6, or 52/12???

We can see from the debate that success can be had with almoast any variation of timing as long as we are above flowering threshold.
In general more light=more veg growth.
Sooo, I will ask it again, anyone thought about or tried 'breaking the 24 hr barier'?

I find it hard to believe I am the only person to have this question. I mean, I know I am an 'out of the box' thinker but I can't be the only one

saw a new timer in high times a few months ago that would let you "break away from the 24 hr cycle." promised amazing results, but they were talking more from a 8 on/ 12 off cycle during flowering to reduce the flowering time. just a thought

I never thought about timer limitations. That would be a hassle having to to do it manually.

It sure would be an interesting expierement though.
Maybe by the time I get ready to veg some clones (it will be a while) there will have been some discussion.


My clones would have to move outside eventually though, so that may present some adjustment problems. Hmmmmm??

i think the important part is that you give your plant a dark period. I find it amazing that the flowering stage is so important but not veg stage. As to your other question I will do some research and post it soon.

24/7 30 days and 12/12 after. I have found that 24/7 lets you go to 12/12 8-10 days quicker. Last grow had 23 females out of 30. This grow, 6 females out of 14. The luck of the draw, I believe.
