I have one and it runs warm, but with just one 3" computer fan I can keep the temp at only 5 degrees F more than it is outside. Thats pretty damn cool in comparison to my HPS, which I have a 5000btu A/C unit for.

Well, Ive read the other replies but Im in need of a sum up here:

So, this wonder light puts out more lumens than a comparable 1000 MH with only 65W and a whole lot less heat? Am I correct on this?

That's lumen's per watt, not overall output. Check Harrad's post on the first page. He answer's Born's question, which is similar to yours (Oi, I'm a little out there, I think it's a similar question)

Harrad said it pretty good. Lumen per watt is same for 1kw HPS, but not overall intensity (ex. 1kw HPS puts out 126,000 lmns. new, and the 65w Flourex putting out 8255 lmns. new--not including ballast lost) which the 1kw HPS clearly wins. Umm.. did I double post? Hope not

The chart you quoted lists the mean (average) output of a 1KW HPS at 126K Lumens, however as presented the FluoreX output @ 8255 Lumens is for a new lamp. Actual output on a new 1KW HPS is 140K lumens. That puts BOTH lamps with ballast losses included at 127 Lumens/Watt new. Just got to make sure your comparing apples to apples! See...with an hps as the wattage goes up, so does the lumens per watt. Where a 70w puts out about 89 lm per watt a 400 has about 112 and a 1000w is pushing 127 lm. So if they were in the same spectrum, which theyre not, the 65w fluorex would be a better choice. Since its putting out 127 lm opposed to the 70w hps' 89 lm. The fluorex is 6500 K ( blue ) which is XLNt for the vegging phase, but not so good for flowering, where we want a red spectrum.blah blah

I went looking for lights and stuff today and found a similar light. Not as powerful but I bought 2 of them anyway. I got them at home depot. Can somebody tell me if these are good?

Thats I & others have been using.Havnt come across the work lamp yet.
Just in case you dont know the specs....
65w, 6500K (blue,more blue than MH ),6825 lumens. So you have 13650 lumens, & your intensity is much better than shoplights.Where you have to keep moving them to within an inch or two of the plants.I think you going to be pleased. I want to add another,only in my flowering chamber, to give me a full spectrum with my reg. 400 hps.

i bought a couple of those same lights from home depot, $19 each......how close do they need to be to the plants ? right now they are 9" away.........too far ?

you vent some of the heat by drilling/melting some vents along the 13" creases of the blk housing.Dont go too deep, just through the plastic.
