hempgirl is beginning to sprout.
here's what I got now

ok I have a space that is now 2x3x3, I painted it all inside white. this is going to be used as a veg room. I plan at least 4 plants and several clones in there.
I went and bought 4 compact fluoros that are 200 watt each 2700 lumens each.. I plan to put them on the sides and top of this. would this be enough to veg anything I needed in that space of course up to 2 ft.? is the 200 watt good enough? I know the 40 watt each I have for shop lights are good but are these better?
thanks all

HempG-
hmm well the 4 compact fluoros put out 10800 lumens total.. that gives you only 1800 lu per sq foot... u need more light than that.. at least double! i couldnt quite tell if you had the shop lights in there already or if you were thinkin about gettin some.. but yeah you definitly need more than 4 compact fluoros.

peace

u need more

Thats only 1,200lumens psf... your plants will grow hella-slow with that. If you buy 2 of those 8255 lumen shop lights and use them with the compacts u have now, then you'll have a whoping 3,034.44 lumens psf. And thats a good starting place for lumens psf.

These shoplights are great for veg rooms since they are high in blue (great for veg), use only 65watts of electricity, put out 8,255lumens (thats 127 lumens per watt!!), and are only $25 each. Simply taking off the clear plastic cover and maybe putting some holes in the back of the light as Xzoomd suggested would be enough to keep them cool.

Just my $0.02 though... do what you want.

check that math, elzz

3ft*3ft=9sq.ft

10800lumens/9sq.ft=1200lumens psf

erm, i also noticed, elzz, that you said at the end, 2 compacts.. she said 4.. and by your calculations it looks like you started with 4 compacts.. erm.. well... u know what im saying.. i hope

anyway, get some sleep or lay off the weed for a little bit till u can think straight again

ok let's clear this up some

I wasn't sure of the deminsions but I have them now this cubbord is 1ft wide, 2 ft deep, and 2and a half ft tall... so I guess that is 2x1x2 and haf... so I guess it is closer to 5 sq ft. ? I think anyway. there are 4 of these lights that put out 2700 lumenns each for a total of 10,800. then divide by 5 sq. ft.. that equals 2160 lumens per sq ft. right? is this good enough for a veg room then? it is always helpful to get the experts advice on this.. I plugged in the light and it is bright in the small area..

Hempgirl,
Normally measurements are taken as Length x Width x Height (LWH) In your case you are trying to light 2 square feet (1x2) which changes things considerably. If you have 10,800 lumens to work with you're doing great! 3K-5K lumens Per SF is the goal most people try to meet for good results. Looks like you are just over 5K Lumens/SF

Harrad.

HempG..

to get square feet, you multiply Length by Width.. so that would be 2x1 in your case for like harad said 2sqf.. yeah you got enough light in there. watch for heat.. its tough stuff gettin heat out of small boxes like that..
And wicked... calm down..
I say peace for a reason man..

I know with a few hits I can get this right, I work in nuclear chemistry so you would think I can get this... length is 2ft, height is 2 and a half ft, width is 1 ft so then LxWxH=5 sqf? am I wrong in this? and even with it being that this should be plenty of light to veg 4 plants and a few clones in right?

ohh who do I think is the expert??? me of course wicked

thanks a bunch guys... I have attached a pic for your viewing pleasure, let me know, what you guys think there will be four of these lights in there. I am thinking about adding a small round fluoro but it is only 15 watts but on the top it may be good?
