![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi all. Just been doing a bit of browsing and come across a thing called "Solar PV (photovoltaic)" It uses energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting. PV requires only daylight, not direct sunlight to generate electricity. One of these babys on the side of the grow room should run all my fans and pumps with no problems for years and years. I know they are expensive at the moment, (£480 odd for a 100W unit) but there are cheaper 40watt units for £250. Probably even cheaper on FleaBay Has anyone else thought or even done this already. It is an interesting concept that a lot of wealthier growers may contemplate. Anything that cuts the Electricity Bill has got to be good, Yes? Cheers Guys ![]()

Hold off a year or two; you will see huge leaps in the solar-sector in 2008 (I currently work for a company (consultant) that is leading the push).

I've been reading about solar panels a lot, and talking with some friends in the business and they say in a couple years it'll be cheap and available. Right now they can make it really cheap, it's just not readily available.

They already have shingle panels (you put them throughout your roof and they look like shingles) but they don’t produce enough energy to make it cost-effective yet. The TPO solar panel will be out in a year or so but I am not sure of the brand name yet. My old company, that I worked for, is the one creating it and they have 7 brands they can release it under. Right now it is created they just have to tweak it a bit. This will be amazing because you can treat it like a typical TPO. A Walmart could power every light in the store by covering their roofs with it. This company currently has the sole Walmart contract so I would be surprised if they didn’t begin to use it when it comes out.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Cheers for the inside info SkierGuy23. Ive seen the shingle units on line, but alas living in an apartment block i dont have ability to mount outside my home. When they become cheaper, ill get one!, maybe 2 and mount them in growroom. Cheers guys

they get at best 20% return (but even if you could get 50%) so your going to take 100 watts of light that you meant for your plants and convert it back to 20 watts of dc to run your fans? now putting them on your roof, the henhouse, the outhouse, and especially over your deck....I"M FOR IT
