ok i have a 400w hps setup, w/ a 400w mh conversion bulb in it right now, & i turned it off to do some work, & now when i try to turn it back on the ballast hums louder than normal & the 400w mh bulb flickers lightly. all this equipment is brand new & has only been used for about 2wks on a 24/0 cycle. any ideas. thanks

How long ago did you turn it off? Do you have a digital or magnetic ballast?

You may need to wait longer if its magnetic, they require more time in between on periods to ignite.

it was off for about 15-20mins, & its a HTG Supply 400 Watt Magnetic Ballast.

i tryed screwing in the bulb tighter, ill just try to let it cool longer, & try later. if this doesnt work any ideas what else it could be.

failing cap or start assist? just throwin it out there if u have an ohm meter run it cross the cap it shoul raise up to the mfd or ufd deppending on what type of cap if it drops rapidly its out if slowlhy runs down its good start assist i have no clue

did u wipe the bulb down with a cloth before screwing it in while holding the bulb with a cloth of some sort while screwing? the reason for this is the oil in our fingers...it messes up the bulb. try wiping the bulb maybe it can prevent further damage.

Not that this is your issue, but I've seen it on some sockets, the little metal tab in the bottom needs to be pulled up just a bit so it connects better with the bulb.
Dont do that with things plugged up tho, ok?

i had an issue with a 400w magnetic.... call em up and tell em, they'll send ya a new one... the replacement has been workin fine since i got it(2mos).... i think they get used magnetic ballasts, and some of em work for a little while, then die.

i had ordered two bulbs, and the first hps did this, so i put in the 2nd, and it did it to the 2nd one as well... so i tossed in the MH conversion, and it worked fine for a month, then took a crap.

more likely than not, the ballast and bulb is dead. htgsupply will replace it no prob, make sure you get a replacement bulb.
