Okay, lighting has always been a prob for me. Give me anything about gardening (i.e., fertilizers, soil, pH, disease and pest control) i'm fine.
Give me info about ANYTHING dealing with electricity, i'm dumb as a crackwhore's rock.
So help me out a little... I'm about as poor as that crackwhore's rock. What kind of setup should i have for my plants? I've always grown on an ubundance of incandescents until i could transplant outdoors, but i want my babies to have the best POSSIBLE.
I understand about the spectrums, but when it comes to me reading about HID, MV'S, UV'S, and whatnot, i gets all confused.

Anybody think they can help this poor dick out?

(note: electric bill is no concern, and i have plenty of space)

Thanks ~ TwIg

Thanks to both of you.
And, so you know, Observer... What you said to me went right over my head , but after reading and re-reading through all the grow guide's lighting sections, i'm beginning to comprehend a little better.
My dad has two (4-5ft) cool white flors, but getting them from him is going to be the prob.
I know that using the incand. is what is causing them to grow more stem and no bush, but after keeping them propped up with stakes and having a fan blowing on them, my two month old babies have good, strong stalks now.
Thanks again, i'll see what $$$ i can scrape together.

So if i walk into the lighting department of a store, and ask about Metal Halides, you think the guy will know wtf i'm talking about?

Later

You should have 35 watts of HID lingting per square foot, but more is great. Keeping the temperature of the grow room under 90 is important, any hotter, and it's not good for the plants. If you're using fluorescent, then you'll need to get as close to 150 watts per square foot as possible, because that's how many watts of fluorescent lighting it takes to equal the lumen output of 30 watts of HID lighting. This is why HIDs are the best.

Peace, Observer

Howdy Twig,

Is cash a problem? If not go for the HIDs; if it is go with floros.

The two HIDs (High Intensity Discharge) lights you really want to be interested in are MH (Metal Halides) & HPS (High Pressure Sodium) MH are more blue better for growing, HPSs are more orange/red better for flowering. However, If you are using the sun to flower and are only vegging inside then you want to us the MHs.

If you use floros then get Cool White bulbs they are more blue oriented. Or you could even look into full spectrum floro bulbs that have an increased spectrum range. Someone called them "lizard lights" but they are full spectrum floros that are used in the care of reptiles since lizards and snakes are VERY sensitive to spectrum changes they make good growing bulbs.

One of the Hosts posted some nice links and information on the old board ubb.marijuana.com. Try searching over there also to do a little more research.

Good Growing

Just tell him that you are going to put it up in the backyard or some such crap to remove suspicion of your real intent. That is if he is kinda looking at you funny. Or you could even go with the one that your dad sent you down for pricing and you haven't a clue as to what he is talking about, etc....

And pay cash!

Peace

Hehehee.... I replaced his newer, better fixture with an older, shittier one that doesn't put out barely any light - and he hasn't noticed!!
I hope it'll be enough for my babies..
Should i keep the incand. on them to give them more reds??

On such a tight budget, I would say to go with CFLs.
