![]() | I used a 60 watt "grow n show" blue light (like that other guy) with a 13watt floresent on 24/7 light. The electric bill was really high!!!!! How much energy does a 60 watt light and a 13 watt floresent light use? how much does a HPS 400 watt light use? Would it be cheaper to use a 400 watt HPS? I know more light = better, but more money = ![]() is there maybe some webpage or a scale I can look at that will tell me how much more money it will cost me or how much money I will save? I heard you should use a 1,000 watt, but that uses more than 2x the amount of power right? since it is 400 watts, does that mean it uses 400 watts of power, but the only good thing is that it puts out more light than 400 watts of normal lights? paying for 400 watts, as opposed to ~73 watts seems unreasonable at this time. (especially when its kept in the sun during the day getting gobs of natural sunlight and UV rays. I can not just grow outdoors for TONS of reasons. I will say this: If i put it outside for 24 hours, it would be gone and possible chewed up by animals that LOVE to destroy everything. Plus, it would not be getting 24/7 light in the seedling stage. Incase you forgot my question: how much power does a 400watt High Pressure Sodium light consume? To me, "light output" is not as important as "electric bill output"!!!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wow dude! What do you pay for power? Your meager 60W and 13W on 24/7 should have only raised your bill by $5 max. Here's the lowdown 1KW HPS uses 1.1KW 400W HPS uses 0.48 KW (Lamp KW)x(Hours per day)x(Price per KWH in $)=Daily operating cost. Read some more! The details are here for those who "search". do you know that same scale with nomal lights? like a 60 watt (grow) light? I want to figure out how much more efficient it is. I am totally into buying things in bulk and paying more money upfront and saving more down the road. So I will probably get one of these, i saw your post for www.elights.com and i saw you can buy them on eBay too, but i gotta get a job this week so i dont get kicked out when i run outta money.

![]() | I accedentally closed this window and i had a lot written! basically here is the conclusion: HPS are more effectient (more light per watt) I figured out that a 300 watt normal light generates about the same light as a 70watt HPS. making HPS about 4 times more light per watt. if you are using a 60 watt grow light, you could be getting the same light from a 15 watt HPS light!! and if 60 watts is ok to use per month, why not get a 60 watt HPS and get equal to about 250 watts of light? a 150 watt = 600 watts of light a 400 watt = 1,600 watts of light look at this: it would take about "26" normal 60 watt lights to equal "6" HPS 60 watt lights! So the way I look at it, no matter what your electric bill is, IF you can get a HPS light equal to or more than the watts of your grow light or floresent, THEN DO IT!!!!!!!!! or if your cheap, get one about... 1/3 watts, a 60 watt grow light can be replaced with a 20 watt HPS which gives you about 80 watts. 20 more watts and you save on the electric bill! i know these sites, although i dont own one of these lights yet: www.elights.com www.ebay.com ( click here for cheap cpu upgrading ) <-- not advertisement, I don't benifit when you save tons of money, I just like to help(like researching information so others can benefit). some example of prices last time i checked: $28 - PC133 512MB (ram) $16 - PC133 256MB (ram) $8 - PC133 128MB (ram) $165 - EIDE 80.0GB (hard drive) $105 - Voodoo5 (video card) $289 - GeForce3 (video card) $107 - Athlon 1.4GHz 266 FSB (processor chip)
