![]() | I am designing a new garden and I have a question about the type of lighting I should use. I am going to use 4 x 600 watt lights for my room. I know that I want to go HPS but I was wondering if maybe I should get 2 HPS lights and 2 MH lights and make sure my plants are rotated evenly. Any suggestions? Or should I just forget the MH lights? ![]() | Yeah thats what I was thinking but I just wanted to get some more confirmation that I would actually benefit from it and not hurt myself by using less HPS lighting. I thought it was worth asking before I went out and bought the expensive lights. Thanks. Any other added advice or feedback from anyone would be much appreciated as well. | ||

If you really want optimum from your girls you should get 4 MH and 4 HPS. Truly in vegetative state your plants need all the blue spectrum you can give them. This will help them to get bigger. Find the best blue spectrum MH you can get. During flower your plants need more red spectrum which is found more predominantly in HPS lights. Mixing the two will work and running just HPS will work, but you will find your plants get bigger if you use MH for veg and HPS for flower. TC

as far as money and power usage go it would be better to go with two or three 1000w lights instead of 4 600w light. 1000w HPS pushes generally 150,000 lumens per light while 600w HPs push 95,000 lumens. 3 1000 w HPS would give you 450,000 lumens to just under 400,00 lumens with 4 600w lights. The more lumens per square foot the better. Cost of the equipment should be a little cheaper for the three 1000w lights over 4 600w lights and power usage would be close to the same. Unless there is a specific reason you want 4 600w lights I would ask you to reconsider you choice here. TC

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Your going to have a lot of heat regardless. 1000w lights are pretty hot. In nature the sun produces full spectrum light all the time. So that's what I do as well. I have a 400w. MH and a 400w HPS. I've tried al combinations but I think full spectrum is the way to go. Two 600w MH and two 600w HPS would grow a very nice garden IMO. O, and welcome to GardensCure. Good luck.

One thing most often overlooked is the actual bulbs you buy. When you buy the bulbs look at the spectrograph and buy the bulbs highest in blues and reds. 600 MH / 600HPS just doesn't give all the information and people who judge on that alone really do not understand plant lighting.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | im with bones.. i buy agromax bulbs, their supposed to have a 40% bluer spectrum and this morning i was high and actually realized how much of a difference a bulb can make, the agromax bulbs i have are "whiter" looking to me than the other bulb, i beleive its a sunleaves, which is more orange/reddish to my eye.... i have had good results with the agromax for years (it was the grower that sucked). i have vegged under MH for yrs and had good results, recently i purchased a T5 and it is having amazing results,, with 4x600s you will cover more canopy and the light will penetrate lower into the plants... also if you use air cooled hoods youll be able to keep your lights 6-8 inches of the tops... good luck ... PEACE..
