Choosing an HTG 1k
permalink

Yo guys and gals -- deciding shortly on a 1k hps from htg supply -- seems that the price differences between the packages involves quality of the hood, whether it includes an mh conversion bulb/switchable ballast, and whether the ballast is magnetic or digital.

I know quite a few of you folks have bought lights from htg which is why I'm going with 'em this time around -- I'm trying to get some feedback on your experiences with their hoods and ballasts, especially with the drastic price differences. Cheapest package is at $239 but I'm not so sure about the hood that comes with it.. goes all the way up to $423. I'm probably going to opt for the magnetic ballast, but could use some help deciding on a hood type as that's the sort of thing easier to judge when you have it in front of you.

Thanks for any input.

We got one

We ordered our 1000w light from HTG. We got the Digital Greenhouse 1000w package. We opted for the HPS and MH package. You can save money by just getting the HPS. You can upgrade the bulb but we didn't and are extremely satisfied with the Agromax HPS Bulb. On the hood we got the really big and expensive Airoflow Reflector. This hood is a great choice and value if you have the room, its about 18x24x12 and has 6" cool tube flanges. I would recommend the digital timer upgrade, it is a great timer or such a small price bump. DO NOT GET THE ADD_ON LIGHT HANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those stupid things suck and won't hold up hardly anything, complete waste of money. You can get the extended warranty but we didn't and so far haven't had any problems. If you have any more questions just ask man. You can see pictures of our order at HTG ORDER.

Hope this helps man.

Thanks Cajun. I'm leaning towards sunsoaker umbrella reflector and just the growbright magnetic ballast, though it'd be nice to have a hood that was air-coolable if the situation required it.

Anybody here grab the magnetic ballast from HTG and what was your experience?

All I heard on the digital greenhouse was they either quit the first few months, or lasted a long time. Hear a lot of both.

Id choose the magnetic personally. I was thinking of placing an order soon also. 300 for a complete setup is almost insane.

I have the Easy Cool 6 and the Airoflow reflectors. I love em. Have had them for awhile now. The Airoflow has a much larger footprint & the glass is sealed better.

I also have a Agrostar magnetic ballast. It's ran for years w/o any problems.

Thanks guys.

I-C, yeah I'm sure the magnetic would be okay. There's a two year warranty so no reason to spend more for digital.

Yo Burndt.. well I'm probably not going to end up cooling the hood/using the glass, so I'm really going for as large a light spread as I can for this 1k.. so either a larger rectangle or that umbrella. Thanks for your input.
