Wow! its' been a looong time since i've posted good to see a lot of familiar ppl still posting! I recently purchased a couple of solar panels to power my laptop and a few odds and ends in my room, and i had an idea.... ( being blazed out of my mind of course ) what if you were to purchase a couple of solar panels (about $100 each) and use them to power your lights...if you think about it it would save you your monthly power costs from the lights...now i'm not sure what the average cost is using a couple of powerful lights but maybe this could be a cost effective way of powering them. I found that if it is a cloudy day and the power goes down a little you can place mirrors on each end of the panel to direct light down onto it...keeping the solar energy high i've heard that you can also get chargers which can store the energy from the sun to be used when it is dark as well......just a thought, i'd like to hear what some of the expert growers might think of this.... .....peace stickyfingers00

![]() | Sounds like a neat idea, but also sounds expensive and time consuming. I think you'd need several panels to take care of a powerful HID light. But I'd love to know if anyone is doing it currently or is going to try it. peace, nitrous

![]() | yeah i'd love to hear if anyone is actually trying this idea out or has tried it.....i think the inital cost would be up there but after that you wouldn't have to worry about the monthly bills, bulbs. the two that i have for my room were $100 cdn each and they work great especially with the two mirrors angled down on them. i'm working on getting a charger to use at night.....anyways if anyone knows more about this let us know!! ......peace!

| the regular sized panel only puts out about 18 watts. and it's low-voltage, dc. so then you've got to convert the panel output to higher voltage, ac. then you'd need a couple of tons of batteries, too. roughly speaking, you'd probably need a couple of acres of panels to run your lights! ![]() | ||
