![]() | I'm going to grow hydro this season and I want to do everything right to get a massive crop and I was wondering how much wattage of lights I per sqft. And how much is a MH light going to run me and how much a HPS light will run me. MY friend has some lights that I could use I think if they are MH or hps what do they look like, these lights look like the ones that schools have at their gyms.

![]() | kidding of course....couldn't resist ![]() So ya want to grow a "massive crop" huh........ Well some good numbers to shoot for would be 50-70 watts/sq.ft. or around 7000 lumens or better/sq.ft. How many and what size lights would be dictated by how big your space is. You need to do some reading in the grow guides and old posts in this forum to get a better understaning of the whole lighting thing. Cost: Varies widely, dependent on where you get them. Your local hydro shop will prob charge the highest prices. You can sometimes find good deals at http://www.ebay.com ( search under grow lights or lamps) or at http://www.cbay.com (look under accesories) or some of the online hydro stores ( do a browser search on hydroponics) Finally....a lot of the lights at schools, on buildings, street lights that have that pinkish/orange/red spectrum are hps lights. The lights with the blue/white spectrum are either MH or MV(mercury vapor). Stay away from MV. Sorry if this is so long, I just can't seem to give someone a short answer cy | ||
