How far away to promote stretching?
permalink

Hi there about how far up should I move my 1,000watt mh to promote some good stretching. My plants are just too short and stocky and the leaves are really in the way of each other. Its all very tight together and the huge leaves are almost all touching the dirt and dyingI have it about a foot and a half away right now and its been about that distance from the beginning. I have 8 plants. heres a pic thats about a week old. The plant is nearly double this size now but not in height just the number of leaves.Sorr y bout crappy ass quality.

well.. you can redirect your light so is not really pointing at it, to force it to grow in a new direction. you could fancy up some sort of metal light-blocker so only like 30% of that light is gettin thru. I would do that for about a week or so, then start training it. Remember, its gonna grow a bit when u start flowering though.

AtticGrower,I think you're wasting electricity by putting those babies under a thousand watts@ any distance.Stretch,IMHO is the last thing I want my plants to do.Is it possible your leaves are drooping from too much heat?I haven't found the perfect combination yet,but I have noticed thru many hours of watching plants grow, that the "stretch" seems to happen most predominately in two stages, during the first few weeks of birth, and the first few weeks of flowering. If you want the one in the photo to stretch, turn off the hps. and put a 100 watt compact floro,3 feet above it for a week b.s.
