wireing questions

ok ive read the whole security light conversion thing and im confused is the black wire + or - cause i thought the white was hot and the black was negative just want to make sure i have this right before i plug it in and fry my ballast or burn my house down

its a 250w mh if it makes a difference

if you have a schematic that should help you. if not ,normally in 120v black is hot or + and white is neutral or -. hope this helps.

There is no positive or negative in alternateing current ( ac). This is because the polarity reverses 60 times a second in 60 hertz systems and 50 times in 50 hertz systems. Black is usually the 120 volt input lead and the white is usually the common or neutral lead.
