lightproof vents
permalink

i have just started light proofing my closet, the light used to leak from the doors so i installed a thin plastic sheet within the door frame, but the temp started getting high, so i put 2 computer fans in there one blowing in and one blowing out,
the problem is theres light shining through the vents and i need to know how to solve this

Hi SFL, Welcome...
if it were me i would take a little sheet metal and make hood inside or outside or both like a dryer vent outside the house.
paint the metal black on the inside ,this will absorb all the light and not reflect it..

just my thoughts........good luck !

I prefer to have a type of tubing/duct that the air travels through with a fan at either end moving the air through it. This way you can construct one that has a couple bend in it (you can use dryer vent or PVC piping to construct such a duct). By having a couple bends in the duct, light will not escape in or out. And it's very easy and cheap to do it this way (as well as very effective, it will get the job done just as well as any other method).

However, wouldn't more bends in the pipe mean more obstruction and less air displacement? I'd go with the hood idea.

What i did was i found a thin white piece of filter. Im sure you could do it with anything, just breathe thru it to test it. You can get it from pet shops for fish tanks i think.

Hope you get it sorted

One of my more stealthy friends vents into the grow room from a cainet attached to his room- and out of the grow room into another cabinet attached to the other side. They are both locked but....they both leak some light through the cracks... Can't see it with the light on

Ok, i'v sorted the vent problem, i'd been looking at it with my stoner head on to long, so i dried up for a few hour (What an achievement) and looked at the problem with clear head and it came to me almost straight away.

So out come the jig saw, and a few blades later there was two near perfect circles cut out of the floor, i dont know why i didnt think of it before

i put one fan blowing in through one corner and the other blowing out in another corner

Theres about 4-5 inches under my closet that is just free space, the front and sides are sealed in but the back is open

I finished this all last night and it seams to be working ok, but today i have to buy some rubber washers to put between the fan and floor and put the screws through them because there was a low pitched humming all fcuking night and it started pissing me off

Apart from that all's ok temps hovering between 82 and 86, alot better than the high end of 90 i was getting

Oh yeah i blocked the origanal holes with some cardboard and pins

Is a temp of 82 - 86 ok, or should i try to get it lower?

I didnt use rubber washers to stop the noise, i made some washers from thick cardboard in the end, But i slept like a baby last night, there was no noise from the fans, at last.
