adding floros to the hps...
permalink

Does anyone know how much of an impact this would make?

Adding 4 of the long floro bulbs in the room that already has a 400w hps.
It would be added from the start of the grow. I'm hoping for bushier plants.

also am I correct that soft white has more blue spectrum than hard white?

does anyone do this?

They would do for side lighting, to get some light to the lower branches

look for cool white if you want blue. never heard of hard white before. but soft white is sometimes more red/orange.

Hey, Concrete!

Later on in our grow with a 400 Watt HPS lamp, we started feeling like the lower buds of our 3 foot sativa were getting short-changed on the light. So, I bought 2 100W equivalent compact fluorescents and directed them at the lower 1/3 of the plants.

I'm smoking the buds that came off that lower 1/3 right now. They were not as phat as the ones from the top, but they are every bit as potent . They were as engorged with red hairs and sparklies as the buds further up the plant.

We plan to do the same thing this grow and are going to paper the room with Reflectix -- a mylar-based insulation -- to enhance the effect.

was the plant in flowering yet when you put them on there or were you still in veg mode?

flos are fine for side lighting, you just need to realise they need to be close!
lumen depletion is rapid with the flos, so if you are using it for lower growth, put them as close to the plant as possible.
use the back of hand test to make sure the temps are fine!

Standard long tubes don't get very hot at all, my plants touch them all the time and they love it

Compact flos on the other hand do burn your plant fairly fast

I have compacts above and long tubes up the sides, i'm always moving the compact flos before they fry my baby but have never had to move the long tubes
