Question how many plants will a dual 400mh and 400hps take care of?
permalink

hi grower gods!

so i have a small area about 5' x 4' x 7'tall (small section in the attic)with this dual spectrum set up. i have 5 white widows(outta 10 seeds)that i haven't killed....i started them about 3 wks ago. they are in 9" pots. then i had a friend give me some seeds...so now i have 8 more beaners coming up...realizing that maybe 50% will be males and removed...that could leave me 6 plants(wouldn't that be grand!) anyhoo...is that enough room & light to comfortably grow 6 plants? i don't know what kind of seeds my friends were...but i do know they were from good weed...the ww came from the amsterdam seedbank.
right now the light is about 3ft from the plants...and the little sun meter is right up there...i just bought a ph meter so i'll be checking that in a few momments. just curious as i've been looking at some of the grow journals and sometimes i'm surprised at the small space that plants can flourish in...and then sometimes i'm a poor judge of space from the pics.

any thoughts?

Is this a switchable or is it actually two lamps in the hood? It makes a difference, if you're running two lamps instead of one.

If it's just one lamp, I'd say 4 comfortably, 6 might be a stretch, more if you do a SoG. If you have two lamps in your hood, you could probably do up to 6-8 plants. I grew out 9 full size LST'd plants in soil under a 1000w HPS and had good results.

In my case, I've had no problem veging 9 plants (3 rows of 3) under my 400W MH. Those were in 1 gallon pots, and only took up a 2.5' x 2.5' foot print. After repotting, I needed to use a 600W HPS to flower as the foot print of the larger pots increased to 3.5' x 3.5'.

As Grasshopper I believe it was mentioned...it depends on the technique as well. The numbers i mentioned above, were typical full veg. grows, A SoG grow could fit many more.

Yes it does...I recently grew two plants under 600 wt. hps in a 3'X4' area and harvested 8-10 oz. dry per plant. Not braggin' but with 800 watts...

Hello lightbuzz

the first light I bought was a dual lamp

system I like it and still use it today......I was growing in a 3 1/2 by 6 feet long and 8 feet high, I averaged 6 - 8 plants per grow with great results.....begining in week 3 of flower i would remove the MH bulb and replace it with a conversion bulb to HPS giving me 760 watts for final flowering......then i discovered the Sumaster Netural Delux {Mh} now I use that with the Sun Argo 430w and outstanding results........good luck

i have a 400 watt hps. Im both veg and flowering 6 with it. They seem to be doing fine......i would not recommend any more than 6 though cuz i have 2 rows of 3 and a couple of the plants like to tilt their leaves.....i dont like that lol.

No problem. You might also want to wander over to the Personal Endeavors section and start a journal. If you've got big juicy lights and that many plants, keeping a journal is a good way to stay on track and get help easily if you need it.

Good luck bro
