Hi BUDHOG

Welcome to HC.com!

Grow light operating cost calculator

You should also factor in the cost of temperature control, roughly 3 BTU/watt, so 18,000 BTU total.

6000w is pretty aggressive for a first grow, you might want to start small and learn the rope before you take the big plunge.

It's a big mistake to let anyone know about your grow.

Since this is a lighting question, I'll move the thread to the Lighting forum.

Your electric bill should give you the price of a kilowatt hour (Kwh).

A kilowatt hour is 1000W per hour.

Eack of your 6 lights will cost that price per hour that you run them. 12 hours a day:72 Kwh per day.

Vegging? 24 hours = 144 Kwh per day. I doubt that you can do it for $60 a month.

I run a continual harvest with a 1KW MH and a 1KW HPS. I run my veg light 18/6 and my HPS on 12/12 every day. They add about $100/month to my electric bill. I suspect that $30 - $60 a month figure was pulled out from a dark warm nether region of the anatomy.

just to get a ball park idea i would figure about $50/ 1kw light / month times 6 or about $300/ month....don't forget you will also have the operation cost of the fan's , pump's, timers and of course the AC cost......maybe more like $400/month .......but hey that ain't no big thing, it will probablly cost you about 10 grand just to set up a 6 k grow op....if you can afford to set it up; then running it shoud be no big thing........click here to see Rockclimber and how he is setting up his 8k grow op
