So, done the 150w HPS thing and .... not impressed . Probably not gonna try again for awhile ... kinda just need a break Might try something outdoors over the summer just to see how that goes ... Might give the indoor thing another go next winter ... thinkin a 400w HPS might help, IDK ... my 150 set up should of had an acceptable LPSF .... can't decide if it's my green thumb that needs improvement or if lighting would make all the difference ... So, lookin to hear from anybody that has had a 150w HPS and switched to a 400w light but kept most other stuff the same (like strain , medium, etc) . Was there a huge difference ?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Of course there is a huge difference. First all, the 400w emits 25% more light per input watt. And second, it emits aprox 3,5x higher intensity, wich means it reach farest. Fist topic mean potencially you can achieve 25% (1/4) less gr/w with the 150w than the 400w. But second means the 150w need to be used with very short plants or, better, in a vertical setup with plants surrounding it to obtain decent yields. Anyway, you can obtain decent yields with a 150w if you use it well, but 400w is other league. Buenos humos

![]() ![]() ![]() | jrhiddengrow- What went wrong with the grow? Upset regarding yield, quality, or what? I started out with a 150 watt HPS and now use a 250 watt. A 400 watter is for next year. The light will be much better, which will translate into better yields, more plants, etc. However, heat will be more as well. Wish I could help you more, but need more details as to what you are upset about.

I have been following along with lovestorides gj and I really wanna see monsters like that , or at least close. I realize he has alot of experience on me and that makes a difference , but I am kinda convinced that my set up is not capable of the results I want out of a 4 month effort. I guess I thought that lighting only limited the # of plants you could fit in the space it could illum with 5-7k LPSF , and that as long as your LPSF was acceptable you were pretty well set. Now I am not so sure ... feelin like the more light you have the better/easier things will go ...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Get a 1000watt HPS ![]() Well i dunno what your space is though 400's are great for small closets. and cabinets. I've yielded 8 oz w/ 1 400w.I've got a 250 MH over my mothers. But cant immagine trying to grow bud with it ![]() 400 watt and up all need good ventalation. and should be an aircooled hood/w glass or cooltube. So if your gonna do it you might as well go for 1000w assuming you've got at least 10 square feet to work with?. also - go for sog, pack in 1-4 plants per square foot. Its much faster, and less frustrating that way ![]() Keep your 150 watt for vegging mothers and get a few floros for clones. Your good to go! -burner Last edited by afterburner; 12-22-2006 at 01:24 PM..

![]() | Well ... I tried the 150 in a cab back in the day and it was a nightmare (for a first timer anyway) heat + light proofing owned me. This last try (my first success) was with the 150 in a closet divided to get the LPSF to the required level and the door open for venting/heat. The opposite of stealth and really just alot to worry about and a fair amount of work for less than impressive plants. If I try again next year I would light proof the door and cut a vent in the ceiling and buy a 400w hps and a stanley blower ...probably do a DIY carbon filter for smell (not really a problem last time I am pretty set on the 400 due to a philosophy of - Heat sucks. It's a PITA so don't invite more of it than is required to achieve the goals you have for your girls. And a grow like lovestorides (simple yet impressive) would be exactly what I want. And he uses a 400 so, might as well follow suit. Guess I am wanting to hear from those that went 150 to 400 and if it was all that you wanted it to be ...
