![]() | THC is destroyed by high temperatures, and I've read that it degrades much quicker when it is dissolved in oil. Does anybody know how this relates to making cannabutter? I've seen recommendations to boil the mix for two hours or more. Would boiling temperature, while dissolved in oil, degrade a significant amount of the active chemicals? I've just mada a batch, keeping it at a gentle boil for about one and a quarter hours, and was disapointed by the results. I used four 6" colas from my last grow with a pound of butter. Even though the bud is light and fluffy, I expected a knockout butter. No such luck. A large pat only produced a mild high, about equal to one good toke of decent weed. So now I don't know how to proceed. I could throw it back into a saucepan with more water and more weed and try to make it stronger, but it doesn't seem to be very effecient. I'm also worried that another hour of boiling would destroy the THC that was extracted the first time. I must say that I'm getting pretty discouraged by this whole project. Two grows, seven months, it must be getting close to a thousand dollars in equipment and I have yet to get ONE good stone from my own weed.

Damn im sorry to hear that! I use to **** with my weed and everytime i ****ed it up after I got sick of wasting it I just stuck to smoking it next time crush your weed up and put it in hot butter that is off of the stove do this 2 times and you will surely have no thc left in that weed and it should all be in the butter. Just make you about 2 loafs of bread and spread the butter on it and eat the whole lb I gaurentee this will be the stone of all stone good luck and I wish you luck as you seem to have had absolutely none ![]()

I honestly cant work out how come you're not getting decent results ... I only use the trim and leaf off my plants from harvest time ... I guess it probably adds up to a reasonable weight .. I think last time I put in the dregs of umm 3 plants with 1kg of butter ... I use a large stockpot and add a lot of water .. I guess THC might degrade with heat, but as long as you dont evaporate it off, which with the water you cant unless you boil dry .. then I simmer for a good three hours ... so perhaps you want to simmer it for a bit longer ... also when you try it what do you do? I made some garlic butter up the other day .. and just semi heavily spread it on toast .. everyone was sitting around watching a vid going this hasnt done ****e .. and all of a sudden we were all clawing at the sofa going 'whhhooaaaahh freaky ****!' .. so a) it takes a while to kick in .. anything from 1 - 2 hours .. though if you havent eaten and do some exercise, like walking to town it hits you quicker ... b) its different to a toke, its subtler in some ways, and sneaks up on you more .. you're kinda sitting there going mmm I feel kinda strange .. I sorta feel drunk, but I havent had anything to drink .. hope Im ok .. then remember you ate some butter ages ago and it all clicks ![]() c) because of b, then if you have a smoke as well its really hard to say which is the smoke and whats the butter .. Ive got friends who I keep making cake for, they get bored waiting, have a J or 2 then tell me my butter doesnt do anything, Ive given up trying to persuade them .. but Ive been out of it soo many times on it .. and really like it, specially for going into town .. no dodgy apparatus or smells .. tis all good ![]() good luck

I assume you're responding to the 'boil dry' phrase .. which is just a stock phrase here for running out of water .. which you can do even at a low simmer if you leave it too long, or dont have enough water .. at which point you're gonna wreck the THC either way ...

![]() | Thanks for the replys, folks. Somebody on another forum pointed me to a FAQ which recommended simmering for *eight* hours, so I guess the THC can't be too sensitive to boiling temperature. I don't think there is a real difference between simmering and a gentle boil. At normal pressure water won't get any hotter than 212 F, adding heat just makes it boil faster. Simmering is maybe 211 degrees. The important thing is to not boil away all of the water and cause the temperature of the oil to shoot up. I have since thrown it back into a pot with more water and a big pile of colas and loose bud, about 3/4 of the yeild from two plants. That did it. A large pat got me swacked out of my gourd, but also so sick that it wasn't an enjoyable experience. All the next day I was burping what tasted like kerosene fumes. So it goes back to the drying problem. The first batch was so bad that one joint had me barfing in the toilet. The second didn't stink so bad, but I still can't get stoned without getting sick. Now that has gone in the garbage too. Well, now I've switched from soil to hydro, I'm growing a different variaty from a different source, and I'm going to build a special box for drying. If all that doesn't cure the problem, I give up.
