Anybody ever tried making cannabutter in a crockpot? The crockpot keeps the butter nice and hot and just under the boiling point. I'm not sure if this works well or not. Any idea how long I should keep it cookin' (or if it works well) ?

My hubby chopped the male plants into little pieces and simmered them in a pound of butter for about 5 hours. Then I strained the (smelly, green) butter and made shortbread cookies with it. We didn't feel much after eating two cookies, just a very small high. A friend of ours LOVED them, but he doesn't smoke often and we do. I was re-reading some notes and THC's are released after 10 mintues at 200 degrees F. The crockpot wouldn't get hot enough to effectively release most of the THC's and I don't think it would do any good to keep it simmering for 4 to 5 hours. Next time I try this I am going to dry the plants nice and slow, chop them up and grind the more potent parts (flowers/leaves) into powder, mix the powder into a pound of room temperature butter, then make the shortbread cookies. The time the cookies spend in the oven should be hot enough and long enough to release the THC's effectively. Happy Smoking Everyone!
