How long does it take for it to kick in once you've finished munching on your cookies?

30 minutes to an hour and a half or so. The stronger it is the faster you will feel it and eating it on an empty stomach speeds it up too.

what if im using lotas leaves from a male plant? should i use more leaves or grind them up finer? I want maximum potency from this crappy male.

Honestly, I compost my males now because I tried smoking them, making hash oil and cannabutter (out of an entire male plant) and never got any worthwhile buzz. Making it would be good practice anyway, and maybe yours is more potent than the ones I used and you will get high. Use all the plant material you have, ground up as finely as possible, with the least amount of butter/margarine necessary, don't get it so hot that the THC evaporates, and keep it covered until it cools for maximum potency.
