Amsterdam Flame's medical benefit...
permalink

Hey guys - quick medical usage question.. I recently acquired some Amsterdam Flame seeds that I just germinated. I was told by the medical patient that it is good for curing headaches. Can anyone confirm if Amsterdam Flame is good for curing headaches? Thanks

yeah c ount me in as eagerly awaiting this one.

i get headaches daily.. not migranes. but just the dull ache of life.

unfortunately weed only makes them worse, if there was some chronic that cured this dull thump in my head. that would be too freaking great!

For me, smoking any nug thats been harvested in the "cloudy" stage is great for headaches. Nugs harvested in amber stage makes my headaches worse, but does great for back pain.

I think you should also look at the THC : CBC percentages on the strain.
Less CBC is better in this case.

I have been suffering with headaches ever since I was a kid. Stem from changes in pressure and moisture. (ie sinus headache). Some can be excruciatingly painful.
It is my opinion and experience that when I smoked it made my headache worse. I think a look into to physiology would maybe give the reasons. The most important I feel is that when you smoke it it constricts the vessels and walls of the veins and arteries. This could in fact make the pain more acute.
I am not slamming medicinal uses, just don't think this is a valid one.

Nothing gets rid of a headache better than regular old dose of Tylenol and/or sleep. If at all possible I suggest both
If it is migraine type headaches, got to the doctor, could be a sign of something else.

I would be curious about ingesting. That may work.

peace

I concur with Hunter. It's a crap shoot for me. I tend to prefer the sativas because they don't fuck me up. I have had some indicas (Northern Lights) that made me feel like a screaming green pile of yuck. Give me a totally sick headache that felt like a Kansas sky before a tornado. I grew it for my very first maiden indoor grow took two hits and gave it all away to very appreciative friends who were not affected in the slightest. Oh well.

I found this i think it should help...

In general neurological problems respond well to the soothing effects of the indica profile .As an aside I personally know a young man who was able to eliminate haldol and control his Tourette's syndrome using indica dominant strains.

2) Musculoskeletal problems can present a dual problem, the pain associated with these ailments can often be acompanied by depression and fatigue. So the easy solution of recomending a strongly analgesic indica could compound the secondary ailments of fatigue and depression. In these cases a hybrid variety could be the answer, look for pain relief of an afghani crossed with a stimulating sativa to help keep you active, if you could benefit from it. In some instances simply using a very potent hawaiian or african sativa can give a balance between pain relief and energy level (these types seem to slow the body but leave the mind very active)

3) Immunological problems create special needsfor the patient as far as product purity and method of cure. AIDS patient cannot be exposed to molds or fungi so great care must be used in curing the product to absolute dryness. Also immunological problems can also be quite painfull so choosing a product to give maximum benefit with minimal negative impact on the immune system. The feed back I have recieved indicates that sativa varieties are prefered by immune compromised patients for their uplifting effects(could this be whats behind the immune enhacing effect ? ) and the energy boost the can provide.

4) Gastrointestinal effects are what really sparked the rennesance of cannabis medicine. Cannabis' powerful antiemetic and appetite enhancing properties have been known by cancer patients for years. For this system I will make one broad recomendation; indicas seem to be broadly effective for most GI complaints ,the exception being motion sickness which respondes to the stimulating effects of a sativa variety

5)Dermatological problems can take on several forms, plain itching or lesions of some kind.Systemic anti-inflamitory cannabinoids can be of benefit. look into low doses of indica type cannabis (excess use can actually make you itch much like the effect opiates have on some people) and perhaps a topical preparation of resinous sativa (disolved in an emolient of some kind ) can provide topical anti-inflamatory effect.

6)Cardiopulmonary issues and cannabis are a contraversial subject as mainstream medicine views the inhalation of any smoke as anathema. But patients with lung and heart problems find benefit from the use of Cannabis in spite of negative medical bias.
Cardiac patients can get benefit from sedative indicas for relaxation and stress relief but care should be exercised as Cannabis use can slightly raise heartrate but without an increase in blood pressure( I use cannabis before my post bypass exercise sessions and can sustain 45 min hard aerobic exercise without problems less than 1 year after surgery)Pulmonary ailments generally shouldn't be treated with smoked product with the exception being conditions which respond to an expectorant product smoked Cannabis of any variety is an excellent expectorant.

7)Psychological therapy using Cannabis is as old as man's association with it. Cannabis is effective in substance withdrawl and various mental perturbations. One way it works is by changing the mood of the user, usually in a positive direction, although it can cause paranoia and agitation in some cases.Strain selection for psychological problems should hinge on wether the condition causes agitation and unrest or depression and angst and appropriate stimulating or sedative qualities should be chosen

Endocrine conditions are as a rule not primarily affected by Cannabis and its use is primarily pallative .Strain selection should focus on immune enhancement and easing distressful sensations.

9)Chemotherapy and radiation therapy cause great stress to the body, indeed these treatments literaly bring the body close to death to destroy the less hardy cancer. As a result a whole range of physical and psychological symptoms accompany these drastic treatments. The most well known being the wracking nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy but the list of secondary effects of treatment is much longer .Again treatment with Cannabis should be of a supportive nature, sustaining the appatite, easing discomfort, and raising the spirits of the patient, sativas seem good for this effect as well as sustaining the immune system.

10) Opthalmological uses range from easing glaucoma to slowing macular degeneration. I believe indicas to be most efective in eye conditions because of what I believe to be a higher concentration of calcium channel blocking cannabinoids. These substances work in a similar manner to calcium channel medications for blood pressure except the eye has nerve receptors specific to endocannabinoids(substances created in the body)

11) Gynecological problems treated with Cannabis were made famous by Queen Elizabeth's use for pre-menstrual symptoms. As her Cannabis probably came from India at the time it was probably an indica or indica dominant hybrid
There is more great information on there site Medical Marijuana Information

I'm glad to see you're all interested in this topic!

Here's what I know:

At a music festival I ran into a medi patient (who is infamous at the particular festival) that everyone refers to as "the doctor" (he even wears a doctors attire ). He was selling gram sized samples of different kinds of medical grade. Me being the connoissuer I am decided to acquire all 17 strains he had which included: Apollos Thunder, Amsterdam Flame, Island Sweet Skunk, Strawberry Diesel, Ak-47, ak-47 x Snow Queen, Blue Moon Rocks (a personal favorite), as well as 2 1/8th oz samples of Jack The Ripper and Conquistador and a few more I can't remember . I also Acquired 5 12 packs of seeds: Belladonna, Amsterdam Flame, Apollo's Thunder, Island Sweet Skunk, and WidowGum (WW x BG)... and all 5 were crossed by Purple Potent males. I ALSO got 5 different kinds of cookies

So yea, it was the most beastly headstash I've ever assembled. Throw in 10-15 8th oz bags acquired from "vendors" as well as a few trades I made for the nugget I had, I litterally had 30-40 differents kinds of nugget. Some other noteables I acquired: Trash (trinity x hash plant) I got an 8th oz plus 4 g of Trash hash oil(the real treat), Blue Cheese, OG Kush, a bubblegum crossbreed, Real Mr nice Guy, and assorted other nugs and hashes some of which were unnamed. Sorry to brag but I had to...

ANYWAY back on topic, someone I hung out w/ for a while at the festival told me that they had a bad headache that morning (just like thousands of other folks there) and he asked the 'Doc' " What's good for clearing up a headache"? The Amsterdam Flame was prescribed The guy said, it worked like a charm.

So that being said, I do trust "the doctor"; I had a good hour long conversation w/ him. He's a post traumatic stress disorder patient who has a medi card. He and friends with cards get to grow numerous strains between them all, and then share w/ eachother. The Doc brings like an oz or so of each strain and sells gram samples only. A day or two after I met him, I ran into him again. He asked if he could get 6 seeds back from one of the particular strains he gave me. The reason being that he said he met a young couple that would really enjoy the strain in the garden. I rellunctantly gave them to him for obvious reasons; he truely believes in the healing power of the herb, and it would bring much joy to this young couple, and everyone should be able to grow pot... I agreed as these are what my beliefs about weed have evolved to (from being a dumb little kid) .

Point being if the doc said it's good for headaches, it's probably true. I was just trying to see if there were any medi patients up on the Cure that could reaffirm this.

I personally smoked my sample when I didn't have a headache; not to mention I smoked other strains in the same day (I was unemployed and on cloud 9 for a month and a half just enjoying all these different herbs ) so I can't first hand say that AF cures a headache; so I'm still looking to see if my medi patient friends can help me figure this out. Afterall I do have the beans, and it would be nice to have some AF on hand at all times in case I get that occasional headache

Interesting topic. I have some Flame beans yet to grow out that were highly suggested by a friend who is surrounded by the clone only madness and puts the Flame right there with the elites. All I was told was that it is some strawberry tasting sticky goodness.

Your best route would be to drop by Paradise Seeds site and see if Luc can possibly answer your question. Flame has been around quite a while and I'd venture a guess he knows his strain very well by now. Good luck with those headaches and keep us posted please.
