One for the newbies...

I've been thinking about this a fair bit over the past few weeks, and it occurs to me that it might be an idea to have a forum for newbies to find their feet in. Somewhere that deals with the basics of growing where they can ask questions that might seem obvious to others without getting jumped on by more experienced [sarcastic] growers.

The only rule for the forum would be that any advice should be constructive [no taking the p!ss]. The way I see it we're here to encourage people who want to grow cannabis so new growers should have somewhere that they can get the ABC of growing without worrying whether their question(s) will be considered daft. Any info that newbies should need such as the posting guidelines/link to the grow journal etc could be put in there too.

It could go at the top of the page so it’s easy for them to find or in the Personal Endeavors forums.

it would be a great forum and help alot of ppl. your pretty good at helpin ppl too maybe if they make it you can mod it cuz i know your newb thread helped me alot and i thank you and i am with you 100% i would also be willing to help if it came through cuz i got alot of time in my hands and spend bout 8 hrs aday on the site

I'd have no problem helping out the n00bs, but at the moment I'm working fairly long hours until I have the cash for some courses I want to take this year. That said I'm in here for at least a couple of hours pretty much every day when things are in 'normal mode' and longer at the weekend. So if a mod was needed for this to get up and running I'd be glad to. Heck it would probably keep me reminded of the basics and that can only be a good thing.

I'm all for a noob "Hello" forum and like the idea of a noob forum in principal but what cultivation questions can be posted in there? Any I presume, should we create a subset of forums in there to mimic the actual forums so that light and hydro questions are seperate?

I think we already have the forums we need in regards to cultivation questions, but bring on a "Hello noob" forum.

it would be somewhere for new growers and new members alike to go if they aren't sure about things. Somewhere that they can be certain of getting positive feedback that will give them encouragement and confidence in what they are doing. It would mainly be concerned with the basics of growing and where to post more intermediate queries if they are uncertain with regard to which forum fits their question(s).

I was lucky enough to have grown before I got here and to be a 'NetHead'/technophile... so I had a fair idea of most of the growing topics and how to use the site. Not everyone fits into those descriptions.

Consider the average newbie as someone who has just got to a new city... they don't know where things are, how to get to where they want to be and what they'll need when they get there. The Newbie Forum would be a bit like a signpost and information point rolled into one. Considering the regular questions that get asked I can see the "So you want to grow in soil", "So you want to set up a Hydroponic grow", "Nutrients for beginners", "Lighting for beginners" and a "There are no stupid questions" space for general queries sounds like a good enough model for the forum.

Once they've found their feet they can get around to the other forums. I figure some people just hang around hoping to find what they need without posting... and this forum should get more people actively involved.

But what takin' ya so long?
as a noobie to this forum, I would like to be able to find the info I need in a hurry, and feel like I'm actually part of a bigger deal.
The idea of being able to post questions, comments, whatever without fear of sounding like a total igit does have it's appeal!
And to all the bros an' sis's just remember you were in our shoes at one time.

Hey, right back at ya.

Not to sound sarcastic, but length of time before something is implemented may be due to some of the following factors:
Raising a family.
Having a job.
Spending 6 hours a day chasing trolls and closing threads (yea me!).
Working on the Grow journal split request.

Or how about...We haven't decided to do it yet! That just might have a factor on why it is taking so long.

Just because 6 or 7 people think it is a good idea, doesn't mean it will happen. Not saying it won't, just saying I haven't had the time to consider it indepth at the moment. We've been a bit busy lately.

Once staff gets the chance to huddle and mumble about it, then we will let you know when/if it will happen.

Until that time, by all means let's hear the pros and cons as different members see it.

Didn't want that to sound like a rip on anybody. I guess that's why we have a pair of eyes and ears but only one mouth. Read and listen twice as much as you talk, and you might learn something(not pointed at anyone, just a statement)

But what I'm getting here is more of "use the search engine to find what you're looking for rather than post a question" For a noobie like myself sometimes asking a question that has probably been answered a gazillion times by more senior members of this forum and getting that kind of reply makes me feel like this little more than a "good ol' boys club".

Besides, a little investment in some printed lit. would probably serve me better. As it has been written in other areas of this forum "Tell Nobody"

Yes, I understand that feeling. I have noticed it myself which is why a newbie forum (probably wouldn't be called that) might not be a bad idea.
Just a place for everyone to introduce themselves and get their "sea legs" with the board.

Mods? Admin? Members? Let's here the pros and cons to it.

when i first got here i didnt even know that i had to switch lights to 12/12 to get em to bud and when i started this grow im on now i started not knowing alot of things and being afraid to ask because i thought everyone would think my questions were stupid and every time i would search i would get hundreds of threads and couldnt find what i needed it was frustrating and made me feel like an outsider that would never fit in i dont want anyone else to feel that way.
