Micro grow subforums?

This may be considered a steal off another website but has the idea ever been pondered by HC.com?

Considering the increasing amount of first-time growers, a general micro-grow subforum would be an excellent idea. One benefit might be an easier distinction between the experienced and the unexperienced grow journals. So just what would define a "micro grow?" Well it stands to reason that it would mean no more than 1 or 2 plants at no more than 2 feet tall (or equivalent) final height. As for the need for seperate journals for hydo and soil and whatnot, there needn't be any. Most frst-timers (especialy the ones going for "micro grows") go with soil, so any audatious first-time-mini-hydro-growing-thread-starters wouldn't much affect the organization of the mini-grow subforum.

[phew] that's just my 2 cents. Certainly hope this new subforum gets started.

crossing my fingers,
-jello

I think the real problem with any new forum/subforum is the lack of necessity and participation.

Necessity - do we really need a new forum/subforum for this? What would the benefit be?

Participation - this IMHO is the bigger problem. What we don't want is forums that only have a few threads in them and are ghost-townish in appearance because of it.

So... if having this (or any) forum/subforum created is what you want, it would probably be in your best interests to explain the need/benefit for it! And I agree with what others have mentioned about a definition of a "micro-grow" to further your cause.

Personally I consider any grow that uses less than 200 watts for flowering a micro grow. And ofcourse grow space height has to be considered as well. When I first came to this site and said i was gonna grow in a 4' tall box I heard over and over again "you need a taller box, 4' is not enough head room". ofcouse most of these guys were using 400 watt lights and such inwhich case you almost do need more than 4' of vertical space to grow. Im using less the 3' of height now (would have been boo'd off the site origionally with that height) and there are some others that are forced to grow with less vertical headroom.

The techniques are different and the grows are VERY different. I mean all there was origionally was these big grows with huge lights and 10" long buds that are 5" wide at the base and so forth. Let me tell ya, under a 150 a 10" bud is a friggin dream and Im starting to feel that a 5" bud is a waste of time as well. The lights penetration just isnt as great and after a certain point loose airy bud just takes on a whole new meaning.

Now lets say Im a new grower and Im only able to use a rubbermaid tote to grow in and CF's as lighting. Sure I can do a search on the site and weed through all the threads that will come up from using "cf grow" in the search field or even "rubbermaid" and hope I find enough information to get me started. And I prolly will but after reading 10 or 20 threads that only mention rubbermaid or cf grow and offering no information or visuals that Im gonna get discouraged and go else where looking for the same information.

I'll have to come back and finish the train of thought later if I feel it necessary. Just so its certain the idea isnt there just to help me, its to help the guys that have a limited budget find the information they need to have a successful grow. I've commonly seen the newbie say, "I've got 2 XXwatt Cfs is that enough for a grow" and most of the time the first reply they get is "you need more light, XX amount of cfs just wont do it". When the answer should be more along the lines of " more light is generally desired but if that is the best you can offer it will work. Yield and density will be less then with optimal lighting but that amount will still veg, flower and produce buds". Give the lower budget grower hope, not another obstical.

In my newbie humble opinion; Well put!!
I will admit ,I am one of those newbies that came in with the questions and insecurities on every aspect of my plans. It was all good as long as I kept reading and heeding the advice of the more experieced. Especially those who have run into those same issues that create the insecurities of a good grow. Yet Ive found sound and very reasonable on the pocket ways to gain what I would need for a larger grow.

Newbies come in looking at the grows and pics and saying to themselves that's what I want; without knowing the proper general knowledge that it takes a minimum of effort to acheive maximum results. Basically starting with the Grow Guide ; understanding it and then not being discouraged because. I understand what N D is saying about being discouraged too. In the beginning money was a big issue because of sending a kid to college in my household. I planned on a small grow in a rather tight wooden cabinet. Luckily a few puppies sold and money came in I could use for something a little bigger than my first plan. Now I still wonder what that 3 ft space with CF would've been like.
I believe Micro Grows have a place.

well i think my opinion on this one is clear

just wanted to add that i and several others have already been boo'd off the site long ago for aspiring to grow in as small of space as possible, why i am almost never here, and don't journal here anymore, etc. sorry but i just do not have the space for anything over 3 square feet. i have been in arguments with some of your knowledgable, yet very closed minded mods, who told me that several of my ideas would never work, which they indeed did, and quite well i might add. ND you have always been nothing but cool just for the record my grow space is 3 ft2 x less than 3ft tall and i do just fine

i have even been told that 1.5oz from a single plant under a 150w w/ NO VEG TIME (making my turnaround only a couple weeks longer than if i were growing lowryder... and well, screw lowryder) was not worth the effort and that i should give up and go back to black market ganja. that last bit was not from a mod here but the rest were, with a slew of members joining in to blindly agree.

so yea, a micro growing forum where the multiple kW guys can stay out of the conversation, since thier opinions really hold no wieght in this kind of growing, is a good idea.... back to participation, i doubt it would get me to come back to this site and post more often, since, no offense to profound and ND here, but many of your senoir members / staff people here have a shamelessly elitist attitude problemwhich kills the fun of being here in the first place. that's my a few times over
