An "ALL FORUMS FORUM"!

I'm not even sure this is possible, although I can't imagine why it wouldn't be...

What I'm wondering is, if we could have a "forum" that displayed all threads (in all forums) ordered chronologically.

Just like how when we click on the "New Forum Suggestions" we are presented with a list of every thread in that forum, in chronological order (of the last posting date), I am wondering about the same thing, but displaying the posts from every single forum (just like when we click "New Posts", but this list wouldn't stop at the time of your last activity, it would show all threads (or at least the last few thousand active threads).

The reason I am suggesting this, is because I know that often if I don't click New Posts immediately when I open the site (ie. if I read some PMs first) I am presented with a tiny list of the posts since I first logged on that day/night until the moment I clicked the button (usually only a few minutes worth). The only way I can see all the posts since my previous visit at that point is by going into each forum one at a time and opening the bolded threads.

I think the idea has some merit. I too have had the new posts disappear just before making rounds. This is a viable soloution.

ARGH!!! It happened again!

You'd think I'd have figured this out by now, to always click New Posts first... but sometimes there's other things (PMs, other UserCP stuff) that pop up first...

So, memebers/mods/admins, any thoughts on this?

In the mean time, I'm off to every single forum (ALL 29 OF THEM! ) one at a time to see the posts I've missed...

I have no idea about the all forums idea, whether it is possible or not. Since I really really don't like that idea, I'm not going to be busting my tail looking into it.

However, I think I might have an idea that will help your problem. Give me 24-48 hours and I will get back to you.

Just so ya' know, this wouldn't really be a "forum", since no one would be able to post in it... really more of a posts lists (like New Posts... but not just new ones... all of em' ).

i like this idea, as i have the same problem a lot.

but i hve a modification to it.
instead of it being ALL posts ever, how bout an option for showing posts during a given time period ( ie, 12:05 pm 12 oct - 3:05pm 15 oct) or between certain dates
(ie oct 12 - oct 15)

That could be neat! Like having "Todays Posts" as well as "New Posts"...

Ok, like I said before I don't like that idea much (not really sure why. Server intenseive?}, but it is above my paygrade anyway.

The reason that the new posts are going away for you guys is because the software reads you as "inactive" for 15 minutes and that triggers the reset.
What I have done is extended that time to 45 minutes. As long as you don't get engrossed in a post/pm for 46 minutes and forget to hit the "new posts", you'll be fine.

Edit: Thanks to my friends in chat (and a few hundred others), a new record has been set!!! Most users ever online was 287, Today at 05:43 PM.

Edit: And now we've hit 350!!! What happened?!
