How Spent is Spent soil?
permalink

I know of folks who just disgard old soil/rootballs after harvest time and have read about some who got busted trying to dispose of this waste. Why not compost this waste? Or worm Bin it? Is it Ethical to the plants? Is it good/Bad for them?

What are the pros? The cons?

What is your opinion?

Lets discuss

yes composting the material would be great if you have a compost bin... not everyone is lucky enough to have that option... and those are the ppl who throw it all away...

true enough. but what about re-using old soil bags as compost bins? aeration may be a problem but not insurmountable

I suggest EM-1 to help in the brake down process

yea composting it would be good, and remember to add the nutes back in and give enough time for lime to take effect..

i had alot of soil left over from my grows... i was tired of sweating trying to dump it..... i finally built a raised bed for my vegetable garden. using old FFOF and some discarded coco coir..... we planted tomatos and after a rough start with the dogs pullnig them out .... we finally got them growing....... then i poured my old res nutes in the flower bed.. and now i have 3.5 ft bushes with massive maters.... i would recycle every pc of a grow you can.. i havent found a way for rockwool yet, but when i do i will pass it along...PEACE

rev or rez i dont remember...her writes for skunk magazine.

he said hes been reusing his pro mix for years, and each time it just gets better. just adds more organic material and nutrients to it, and says its fine.

he also grows with organics so may not be the same when reused with chems. as in salt build up and ph being off.
