![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Howdy gang, So you have an idea of what composting is (it's stuff rotting out back right?) but you really don't know the benefits that can be gained from utilizing a compost heap. So I gathered up some links of sites I thought were pretty good to give everyone a jumping point to help educate themselves on the usefulness of useless stuff ![]() All about it……. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/e.../chapter1.html Discussing the difference bewteen: AEROBIC (with oxygen) decomposition and stabilization. And ANAEROBIC (without oxygen) decomposition. Very Good IMHO! ![]() http://www.compostinfo.com/ Very nice site packed with info such as when is compost ready to use. http://www.gov.nb.ca/environm/comuca...post/magic.htm Good Canadian site with an excellent section on "Can I compost this?" http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~ohioli...1000/1189.html Kinda a quick and dirty on "How To" http://shwec.uwsp.edu/mastcom/ Has a section starting out for vermicompost; I actually inadvertantly did this when I was a youngin' growing up but I was using it to attract worms for fishing ![]() http://shwec.uwsp.edu/mastcom/csbins.htm This site shows a few different methods for creating a composting Bin http://www.vegweb.com/composting/ Another nice little site http://www.ns.ec.gc.ca/udo/paydirt.html This one was kinda weak but I threw it in for good measure This was kinda funny…….. http://www.cityfarmer.org/CFcomposttoilet.html#toilet Just thought I'd throw these up here since this forum wasn't getting' much action. And I am guessing not too many people are actually thinking that can use this in anyway. If you are thinking that look through these links and tell me what you think after surfing through them. Imagine the amount you can save by not buying soil additives from the nurseies anymore. As well as providing very healthy organic food for your plants. Good Growing LB | ||

| Hey lilbuddie, Great posting!! The money saved by composting and recycling is a bonus in my opinion. We as growers struggling to help free a 'Natural Resource'we must also not forget the other resources that can use our help or at the very least attention. By getting the most use out of the resources we do consume; we help our Karma and our Garden. This isn't limited to soil amendments either...Re-use old floro lights, salvaged range-hoods and other fans, re-use pots from a recycling center or nusery, DIY ozone generators, homemade CO2, you name it. If you want it its out ther somewhere already, so go find it and use it till it breaks then Fix It, don't just go get a new one. Anyway enuff ranting, I thought the linx where great lilbuddie and I believe you can learn alot looking at your 'scraps' Overgrow the Government...Peacefully ;~} | ||

| A little friendly stoner advice: I once tried to mix up a batch of organic ferts which included banana peels, my advice to you is DO NOT put whole peels in the blender!! Unless you like the smell of burned out electrical motors. I suppose if I'd not smoked a gagger before hand I might have chopped the peels up so they did not wrap around the blade and burn out the motor, oh well live and learn. ;~} Stoner Moves 101... is there a forum in there somewhere??? Peace | ||
