Question Has anyone used Iguana POOP for fertilizer? or does anyone know if its a good idea?

I have a iguana and i throw his shlt away now. but i was wondering if this would make a good fertilizer for my plants. I wanted to see if anyone else has used it before. If not i thought I would try it. And if It does work is there anything I can feed my iguana to make his shlt better for fertilizer. As long as its not dangerous to him. I'll take any advice I can get on this one.

yea, there have been several people who have used all kinds of "zoo doo" with good results. The only thing you might worry about is antibiotics or other medicines that might be in its food.

You'll also get better results if you compost it before you use it.

Wouldn't you recommend to *always" compost it before use?
The problem with most "animal ****" is parasites.... certainly not as common in vegetarians as it is carnivores, but still. An exotic species can certainly harbor exotic parasites... I would worry about protozoan creepies, myself. Even the heat of most composting doesn't reliably eliminate them from the waste.
Also- doesn't decomposing organic material tie up nutrients in the soil?

Yup, I use my Iguana's doo too and the best way to make it better would probably be to make sure the Iguana is getting a good, varied diet. Think colors more like purple cabbage, orange squash, and red beets. I'm not sure what types of minerals are in these but I do know that certain ones cause the coloring. Might be something to keep in mind...
