I've been trying out a mix of potting soil, perlite, worm castings, and Espoma Garden-Tone 4-6-6. I'm actually growing some herbs in it, as a practice run for growing herb in it. I just realized that this fertilizer isn't completely organic. Oh well, it's a start. If I find that the plants need more food than I've mixed into the soil, can I make a tea with a fertilizer mix like this, and feed that way? The package says Quote:
premixed like this. Anyway, I know some of the components are not water soluble, but do you think making a tea from it will give me a decent liquid fertilizer, for supplemental feeding? I'll probably supplement with some fish fertilizer too, to up the nitrogen. -ciratac- P.S. What exactly is "animal tankage"?

![]() ![]() ![]() | Only the last 2 ingredients aren't organic, but it confuses me as to why you would go to all the trouble to put together a complicated organic fertilizer and then add a couple of chemical ferts to it. Weird decision by the manufacturer IMO. Anyway it sounds like a good balanced blend and I doubt you'd need to supplement it with anything else. You could make tea out of it, but you really wouldn't have any way of knowing how much of what nutrients it contains, because as you pointed out not all of the nutes in there are water soluble. I would instead go with the fish emulsion, which is a good general liquid fert, and if you wanted to boost the P or K get some guano (P) or seaweed exract (K). I believe the Alaska fish company also makes a high P blend for flowering, it's mentioned in one of the other posts in this forum. Animal tankage is basically what they hose off the slaughterhouse floor. (After first separating what they make hotdogs out of ) It's disgusting, but plants love it.O

![]() | Well, that makes sense. I'll go with it as is, and use fish emulsion to supplement N during veg, and some sort of high P guano to supplement during flowering. Maybe a little kelp occasionally for that oh so mysterious K. > Animal tankage is basically what they hose off the slaughterhouse floor. ![]() (in my best Homer Simpson voice) MMmmmmmm.....animal tankage.
