burnt ash

hey if i burnt some sticks and leaves etc. would the ash be a good source of nitrogen?

If I recall my chemistry, wood ash is VERY alkeline, so it would lower your PH drastically. A good example of how low the PH really is is ash is used (or at least WAS used) in soap making. You cook the ash with water and fat to make soap. The Ash reacts with the fat through the process of (and I'm not making this word up) soaponification to create soap.

Wood ash is 0-1.5-7. No nitrogen, a great source of Potassium, but yes, very alkaline.
