i always use peat humus and peat moss and perlite, as my soil mix... i'm wondering if there is someone with an idea of the nutrient content of my peat humus would be, i'm trying to figure out if i could possibly be defficient in N or K but don't really have $ to test soil, thanks for any input

Lightbulb I dont think that........

it would be that big of a deal, I think you should just let it be.
You could consult one of the forum administraters, cause I have no idea about the nutrient thing.

Google- 2 seconds.....

Peat humus- Because the plant materials which comprise this category of peat are extensively decomposed, it is difficult to distinguish among the individual components. Peat humus, often composed of reed-sedge or hypnum peat moss, contains less than 33% peat fiber. Since it often contains clay and silt and does not increase drainage or aeration, peat humus is not usually recommended as a component for container media (Landis, 1990).
This is the page.

thanks

thanks 3 hounds, i've read that already though, i know it sez it's not recommended but i already used it and have decided to not use it in the future, but my plants are either over fert or under in N or K.... just trying to figure out which it was.
my mix is NO MORE than 33% peat humus but prolly more avereage is 20%
does someone know how much soil test kits cost?
i'm planning on using peat moss, perlite for my mext mix, and amend with blood meal, kelp meal, bone meal, and whatever i find for micros and stuff

If your mix is made up completely of peat moss, peat humus, and perlite, and you haven't added any other amendments or nutes, you can probably rule out overfertilization as the problem.

I think I saw some soil NPK test kits at Lowe's for $4 something.

She sure is pulling all the nitrogen from her leaves. How close is she to being finished?

Yeah, that sounds good. You don't want to be giving many nutes this late even if they are deficient. Your new soil mix sounds a lot better. You'll probably need to add some soil or compost or something to it though because neither peat moss nor perlite holds much water. Post here or PM me if you want help planning it.

I don't know why your picture wouldn't insert. I posted one earlier with no problems.
