my buddy has a farm and has a burning pile where he just burns scrap wood. I was wondering if i took soil from underneath, would it have too much nutrients for a plant. i dont know if i would start it in this soil but i was thinking for when i move into bigger pots. i dont know if you can ever have too much ash in a soil but i had very bad experiences with non-organic ferts.

Generally it is suggested that you use ash from hard woods and not soft woods. I know ButterFlyDrems posted some good stuff at on point here and Organic has his chart you can look at in the grow guide. Ash is a good "part" of organic mix to control acidic levels but not as the only fert in the soil
