How well would fruit peels (oranges bananas apples ect) help your plants growth?

If anyone has tried please explain what you used and how well it worked.

*an aquaintence of mine explained to me that he used orange peels, he arranged the orange peels to go around his plants with the white side facing up, he said they made his plants have a "fluff" effect... I have tried and it indeed did do this, untill the orange peels became stale at least...i dont try this anymore becuase the orange peels if not removed immediatly allow things to grow on the soil... mold i suppose it was... but it never effected the plant to an extent i noticed*

This is one of the reasons why it's recommended to compost fruit and vegetable scraps first. Homemade compost can be a great addition to a soil mix, however. Here is a good thread about it:

I had a friend who composted in the following way... He would dig a hole in the garden and put his kitchen waste (no meat, no oil) in that hole, dig a hole next to that one and cover the first filled hole with the soil from the second hole. Needless to say, he didn't live where 'coons live.

Burying household waste is a good old-fashioned way to enrich your soil if you're not in a hurry to use that area. There are downsides, but if you don't have critters digging up what you're burying you have a good compost situation in a few months. Peace -

There really is no right way to grow, you have to resonate with a style and learn what you can,
tweak it to your own style and raise the bar each grow... OD '07
