permalink

Has anyone ever heard of putting a ring of copper wire around your plants to keep away slugs. Because i tried slugg bait and there were so many that they ate it all, and i put alot of it down. I had 6 plants put out at my plot and now only i survived. I HATE SLUGS!!!!!!!

Salt bad...
permalink

....it will contaminate your soil.

Try this...take a 2 litre pop bottle.

Cut it in half. Push the neck end up into to bottom. Put some slug bait inside. Staple the two peices together. Instant slug trap.

Or do them in with...a shallow pan of beer. They love it...and then they die from it!

(Mods...sorry for talking about beer...was that off topic? )

I forgot about the "slug cutting" abbrasives like egg shells.

I read this about the copper....it makes sense because the difference in the charge between the copper ions and the ions found in the soil (phosphate, potassium, sulfate, nitrate) could cause an irritating current through their slimmy bodies.

.... uses copper strips with electrifying results. Snails are said to get a mild shock from the ground current.

Little-Known Slug Facts:
•Slugs have tongues with 27,000 teeth and rasp their food.
•Slugs go about .007 miles an hour.
•Slugs sometimes are both female and male, and if no one else is around will mate with themselves.
•Slug slime can take away the sting from nettles.
•Slugs can stretch out 11 times their normal length.
•Slugs mark their own scent so they can find their way home after dark.

Try diatomaceous earth - its a powder consisting of the remains of diatoms. The skeletal remains of the diatoms are very sharp and will puncture slugs and any other bugs that travel over it. It's not harmful to us. It really works.

I'm NO Mod but....

Nope, beer is not off topic when it's related to growing. I enjoyed reading this almost as much as leanrning that a pan of beer will safly correct the problem.

Thanks for the chuckle. lil
