I got a grasshopper problem that is out of control. They are eating my girl faster than I can grow them. What can I use? I live on about 4 acres or more of just wild flat land full of manzanita bushes and boy is it extremely hot and dry out here. the grasshoppers have taken over and I need help. I have tried insecticidal soap and tobacco water solution. All they did was have a chaw and then take a shower. What a waste! Help me please before it's too late. Thanx, stoned2

![]() | Grasshoppers can only be controlled with a stomach poison. This is typically mixed with a bait consisting of bran. Problem is that it takes heavy duty stuff to kill them - chlordane, dieldrin, aldrin. There may be some newer, less persistent, chemicals available. Check some pesticide labels at a garden center. You can PM me if you want the bait recipes.

![]() | How about these green worms that wrap themsellves up in the leaves? This morning I went out just as the sun was comming up and low and behold I caught one of the 'lil wormys in action. It appears to me, as I have begun 2 study them, that they come out early, and maybe late,2 eat. They spin a type of web 4 their home, and it's usually under the leaf, but as they get bigger, the leaf begins to role up,cuz I guess they need more of it.Can U tell me what it is?Where it cjomes from?I mean a fly,or butterfly, moth, what?Any suggestions? They don't seem to eat much. But last year, they started in on my buds, drilling a little hole and using them as home Not good.I just want to keep them as under control as I can,so as to not have a horrible infestation by flowering time. Other than those things my plants r doing real well.By tying the tops, stair stepping them, they R becomming big"ol bushes. 3Hounds??U have some advvice to give a girl? ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | "Bt" (Bacillus thuringiensis) is a strain of bacteria that is toxic to many garden pests- leafrollers (moth larvae) are a good example. It is available at any garden center and is applied as a spray. More info here.

![]() | You can try water, soap, and cheyanne pepper(forgive spelling the red peppers that are extremely hot). You want about 95% water 4% soap(so it sticks to the plant) and 1% pepper(to make those grasshoppers leave in agony!) ![]() You'll have to redo it after it rains. Just spray it on, make sure to get all, but not drown the leaves, they still need to get light and gases.

the reason i ask, i use that stuff around my ranch, and there's lots of warnings on the label about health risks to humans, no antidote, seems pretty scary to ingest it in any form... ![]()
