As one of the cops who investigate marijuana cultivation in CA, I cannot encourage you to grow dope. Depending on the size, location, etc you are liable for arrest on felony charges. At the least you will have to go to drug treatment. If you get a prescription from a doctor you can grow it leaglly on your property within the limits of your local jurisdiction.

I can tell you that we start finding marijuana in starter rooms (visquene castles) beginning in March - April. These are field expiedent greenhouses made of 1 by 1's and plastic, and camouflaged. We usually find the pot planted in trays, cups, etc.

During this time we find that the growers are preparing their sites, clearing the understory, running water lines, etc.

Begining in late May - early June, we find that the pot is planted in the ground.

By September - October we find the plants are being harvested.

thanks for the advice. It's not like I'll being growing in Humboldt, ya know! I'm pretty sure that i've got some safe locations. Regardless, i'll be careful. I've always thought that if a cop gets a report (or sees) about plants, they'll just go pull em up--as long as there's not not a patch of like 25. I won't be harvesting in october or september, either. Since I'm growing in a place (in between the bay area and bakersfield-not very specific ), that doesn't really have a drug problem, or police flying around in helicopters looking for it---I feel pretty secure. Aren't the penalties the same regardless if you have 1-99 plants?

I hear ya. We obviously don't get all of it. I think we are lucky to get half. I think the big indoor growers have the corner on the market, though.

Recent activity in the area between the Bay Area and Bakersfield such as the largest seizure of outdoor growing mj in CA history, and subsequent large scale hispanic grows in Fresno, Kern, San Benito, and Tulare counties have really caused the agencies in that area to focus on outdoor cases and flying. CAMP has focused alot of their activity in that area. A word to the wise, if you know what I mean

BTW,

Technically, the penalities are the same whether it's 1 or 99 plants, but the realities of it are that the local prosecutor will file felony charges on larger grows. Since Prop 36, if you don't have priors you can get diverted, but the bigger the grow the harder the "People" are gonna push for punishment over treatment.

that's so cool that you're on this board (sending props through internet lines....) I'm just planning on having like at least 4 different spots with no more than 8 or 9 plants at eat spot, so it's not like I'm going to have big fields of it (like some people grow in the middle of cornfields). I'm just gonna have it along the banks of a secluded stream-pretty incognito. How often do you actually catch people, instead of just deystroying their crops (when growin outdoors)? Would enforcement actually do survelience (especially in a quiet little area) if the found 8 little plants?

Smoky,

Yeah, we do bust them sometimes, but only if the grow is a big one. The record garden was over 78,000 plants. Acutally there were about 110,000 but since they were in several gardens that were discovered over a period of days, CAMP credited the "big one" as the record.

Normally, when we fly we start looking near the stream beds since the plants need alot of water. If your site is easlily accessable, and if the locals don't have much else to do, you could get a rather nasty surprise, even for 8 to 10 plants. Normally, we just eradicate a grow that small, but if you're in an area that does get much cultivation activity, and with in increased activity looking for the big Hispanic grows, the locals may just decide to invest the time in your demise, so to speak.

If we find water systems on timers, the grow is not that big, and there is no regular pattern of visits to the site, we may set up a camera, or spend a set time like three days, and then eradicate.

We have found in gardens where we are unsuccessful in arresting the growers that they have some form of detection to tell if anyone other than them has visited the area. In the past these have been everything from branches or twigs place on the trail in such a manner that if you don't know they are there you will disturb them to items that will attract the cops attention such as notebooks, etc., that are placed in such a manner that will show if they have been handled. When they are a distance from the grow, the growers have a good idea if anyone has been in their site without actually going into it. But still, it can be a "crap shoot" and we do catch some of the sneaky ones.
