Does anyone have any ideas they'd like to share on their outdoor watering system?...im getting tired of lugging large amouts of water into the woods and need an idea to collect natural rain water,i was thinking of burying a 20 gallon water cooler jug into the ground with the top cut off,(i'll just scoop out water mix ferts then pour onto plants)do you think it will collect enough rain water to supply a few plants once a week?i cant afford an elobrate setup with pumps and 3 miles of hose extending to nearest water hole,i need a stealthy semi-cheap solution..any help would greatly be appreciated..

Lightbulb

back in the old days, when i was a much younger lad,i used 1 gallon milk jugs as a kind of automated drip system.........but it was drought conditions so this might not apply to you...but here goes......the jugs are filled with water and a small(1\2 inch to 1\4 inch)slit is then cut towards the bottom of the jug....the jugs were then buried up to 3 ft away from the plant(bury them so 1 to 2 inchs of their tops are all thats stickin up).careful when burying them as u dont wanna harm your plants root system....over time the water seeps out and when the jug is empty jus refill it............this is handy if u dont wanna make a lot of trips to ur grow site.......only problem is your still gonna have to pack water to them, just not as often.....one more word of advice..try expirmenting with diff size cuts in your jugs, you want the water to drip very, very slowly...hope this helps....good luck

smoke it if you got it

great idea ripsaw!!! so you bury them within about 3 feet, with the part that you pour the milk out of (spout) sticking up out of the ground a little? I'm gonna grow about 100+ plants so i guess this should work to completely water them if i just get enough jugs! About how often did you have to refill them?

Cool

yep..jus leave the spout barely stickin out.......usually didnt have to refill for at least 2 to 3 weeks...........depends on on weather conditions and how big a hole you made in tha jug...my advice is to expirment with a jug before hand...several small(pin) holes around the bottom radius acts kinda like a soaker hose.....or 1 hole on a side can water a paticular area...try and get them in the ground as early as possible and as close to the plants as possible.....if plants have been growing b4 u put in the jugs,u will have to keep some distance from the rootball, but if you put plant and jug in at same time u can get the jug real close..hope this advice helps...
