Exclamation Ferts For Soil Growing?!

Hi all!!!

I would like to clear up a few minor details to help others, attract possible feedback and to help avoid unesseccary NUTE-BURNS!!!

Folks, ferts have been widely over-rated and almost completely unesseccary when it comes to soil growing. Many people, including myself in my first grow have experienced nute-burns due to over-ferting, even with minimal amounts of ferts.

It is my personal belief that almost NO FERTS R NEEDED WHEN GROWING IN SOIL INDOORS. When transplanting and moving plants into bigger pots and with new "fresh" soil....the amounts of ferts are already present in the new soil to keep the plant grwing and being fed enough.

Most of the info present here regarding ferts is basically for hydro growers where no ferts & "food" is initially present in water.

Would love your info on this topic guys...lets help others avoid future nute-burns all together!!!

interesting. i would LIKE to agre with you! can someone prove or disprove this? i think it'd be worth a chance to do a full grow doing everything else right just using absolutely no added ferts!

My second grow is already started...I'll call it "POWER YEAR GROW #1" as it was planted on new years with feminized POWER PLANT seeds..aquired directly from the source in Amsterdam (my last visit there in Oct.2002)....

planted 10 seeds 9 managed to sprout and also added 2 more seeds of my last years grow!

This season will be all natural without any ferts except if nesseccary at the final stage 1 week into flowering ...

yep, i agree. mostly

if you start out with a good quality potting soil, you won't need any ferts, at least for the first or second grow.

but then your nutes will become used up and/or leached away, and you will need additional fertilizers.

just my 2¢

jose, do you make it a practice to reuse your potting soil as much as possible? i was always under the impression that it was best to use fresh soil.

no, justawannabe, after the 3rd or 4th grow, i start over with new soil. the old stuff goes out in the garden in one of the planters. the garden plants love it, and i feel better knowing the mj has everything she needs with new soil.

new soil is so cheap, it really doesn't make much sense to use it beyond it's expiration date

Light seems to be the breatest factor for indoor grows. From what i have seen on here best thing to do is manage the climate more than anyhthing, as well as soil PH. You might want to check the grow guide section on organics if you want to fertilize and are worried about burns. I must say this site is awesome, you still make mistakes, but there is always an answer here to what went wrong and usually it doesnt happen again. Thanks all!

Great Post...been dealing with this too..

Santorini,
Funny you should post this. I am re-thinking the whole nute thing too. I am starting my first grow with good genetics and am curious about what you are saying. I was going to go with B.O.G.'s soil mix which consists of good quality soil, perlite, blood AND bone meal and 2 tablespoons of lime. When final transplant is done, after flowering has started, he say's he gives 1 heavy dose of foxfarm bloom. I believe he also says he gives a couple doses of earthjuice too. Also, Ed rosenthal says pot in veg state needs NO nutes, but always use nutes in flowering. I am leaning towards agreeing with you though. These guys plants eat better than I do. It sure does sound like alot of nutes to me. What does pot need in flowering to grow lots of sparkely buds??

go organic

check this out ya''ll aplant does this thing called photosynthasis
im not going to start PREACHing but that big word we will call [ph]
needs to be somwhat understood. when your h.i.d. lamp's rays are hiting the leaves of the plant [ph] happens, when a plant needs food/nutes it gets it from the roots in any medium, if the medium is fortified w/ nutes then all rite. but soil can lose its micronutes over time and the main factor is[PH] if you have an increadible amount of light then the plant will grow very fast &use up the nutes in soil leaving dirt i use earthuice i used to use age old organic. if you want the buds to be sticky &smell very potent i adise useing earthjuice, if you read the ingrediants in earthjui you''ll be satisfied
