![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This comes up a lot, but it's not really possible - a clone is the same plant. ![]() In fact, I'd say from my experience sometimes clones can grow better than their mother if better conditions are available. ![]() Thanks!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | well the thought process of the clones degrading is that a cell can only divide so many times before it loses vigor. it makes sense in theory and is why most people flower out their mothers every once in a while. penguin and I had a discussion a while back in another thread about this very thing, can't remember what thread it was though. perhaps you could get him to chime in with some big words on why people do this, as I don't exactly know why. bonsai mothers are a good choice, they involve small pots and small plants. i'm sure you could find some useful info with the aforementioned search function

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For some reason all of the important/good bonsai mother threads are broken, they all have the old format for HC.com and didn't seem to make the migration. Sucks

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would go with a CoCoCoir/Perlite/whatever you got mix MrHyDro... Something with absolutely no nutrients in it... That way you can control your feed, as with HyDro... A low EC hand-watering will keep her alive and spreading the love... I'm actually doing the same currently in my GrowJournal... Two Rhino mommas getting transferred to CoCoCoir to slow 'em down until I need cuttings again...I'm thinking you can feed 'em like .4 or .6EC one week, flush with fresh water on their next feeding, and then back to a low EC feed again... Every other week they'll get the nutrient, or however it works out... ...just my GoodLuck&GoodGrowin's to ya!~HH.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here is my purchase, I just need to figure out the right mixing, any advice would be appreciated. ![]() I'm thinking 70% potting mix, 30% perlite with an inch of river rock in the bottom of a 6" pot. Miracle Gro "Organic Choice" Potting mix - 0.10-.0.05.0.05 Miracle Gro Perlite - 0.04-0.01-0.06 River Rock (Figured I'd use it in the bottom of the pot, how deep though?)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If someone could reply that this seems 'ok' for some mothers, I'd appreciate it. Honestly this is the first time I've done soil so I'm very nervous and looking for that thumbs up response. I'm sitting here with my bags scratching my head. Everything is always hard for me to do the first time. ![]() Thanks! Last edited by MrHydro; 06-06-2007 at 09:02 PM..

A mother plant will still require most of the same things as a regular plant, the difference is that you want something involving slightly less maintenance and an ability for a large spreading canopy. Therefore, I recommend 50% perlite, 25% Coir, 25% Organic Matter ( think super-rich topsoil OR compost OR worm castings Or a mix of all three. ) Dont worry about rocks at the bottom, at least dont believe everything you've heard about how it works.
