water chiller question

i am running my temps at 86 degrees w/ co2
want to keep water resivior temp in optimal range
info i have says 70 degrees is a good temp - but i was wondering if it should be warmer if running co2 - will the extreme temp diff between air and water (that will affect medium temps) be bad or not optimal

example = if your air temp in grow room was at 86 degrees and your nute solution was at 65 degrees -

reason again i ask is because my book says temps of nute soltion are optimal at 65 to 70 but i am wondering if that is if your air temps are in the 76 degree range - should the solution temps go up if the air temps do?

if my room temp is 86 degrees my water temp should be near that - so 84 to 86 degree water isnt good

can anybody tell me what there water temp is in there room when the air temps sit at 86 degrees

im trying to determine if i will need/want a water chiller

stick to that if you can.

above 72 and you start to run the risk of developing algae and other problems. even with co2.

You can expect to throw away your money.

Do a Search on Titles Only using the keyword "chiller". You'll find a lot of your questions have been asked/answered before.

I have not used them yet, but I have a 1/10th HP chiller for each of my 40 gallon reservoirs (that run 35 gallons). I got three for $1,050, partially because I bought them all at once.

Incidentally, my ambient room temps were around 75º & the reservoirs ran about 73º.

No. roots need to be in the 65 - 70 range at all times. No matter if the air temp is 70 or 100. If it does reach 100 and your plants roots still have 70F water, they will be able to survive it a lot longer than plants in soil or warmer water because they still have cold feet Trust me here I've tried it

Currently that is my temperatures; 65-67 F water/ 82- 86 F air with co2 injection and I consider it close to optimal

Listen to the book any water temp of higher than 74 degrees, no matter what your air temperature will cause you root rot eventually.

Cold water has a higher maximum Dissolved oxygen capacity than warmer water. A significant amount. Thusly good aerobic bacteria thrive in cooler well oxygenated water, and the bad anaerobic bacteria thrive in warmer water. Warm water simply can't hold as much oxygen. Cold water & high dissolved oxygen means your plants immune system will be strong against all these bad diseases, mostly just because the cold root environment doesn't favor anaerobic bacteria. I've run with temps in the 90's.... and water temps in the 80's... On accident. usually because my chiller pump died or I got lazy, and forgot to check on them. Trust me you don't want to go there! Plants can handle it for a short period if they're already healthy but, man I've seen some nasty roots

Get a chiller. Don't skimp out either. You're gonna have to shell out at least 400 bucks. how big is your reservoir?

Hey bones, bite the bullet and get the chiller. Bluecheese has the same chillers and res size as I do (ecoplus 1/10 /35 gal) and man I can't stress how nice it is to see that res temp at 62 or so after seeing it at 73. I would recommend ebay. I got mine there and it was a good deal, like GD says it'll be in the +or- $400 range. I limit my searches to free shipping only. Have Fun.

I don't know. I guess i like to see it nice and cool. I figure if my DO is good at 65 then it's a little extra good at 62. I think I read somewhere you will slow your growth under 60 so I definitely stay above that.
