Correcting soil PH?
permalink

Soil Mix:

1 part topsoil, 1 part worm castings, 2 parts Promix (perlite, peat-moss, verm.) 2 parts perlite, 1 cup dolimite lime.

The PH of my tap is 7.0, the PH of my run-off water is around 7.3. The plants are having issues.

Is there any way to correct soil ph? Should i lower the ph of the tap?

Why wouldn't you lower the pH of your water? You want it around 6.5.

I suppose you could top dress the soil with peat moss, which lowers soil pH, but I imagine a transplant is your best bet to fix a soil problem.

And, I've been told - you do the search - that measuring runoff is not going to tell you anything useful. To measure soil pH, pH adjust a cup of water, add a cup of dirt, shake, settle for 10 minutes, then stick your probe into the slurry in the bottom of the cup (not the water at the top).

Well, Dont, I am sorry you are going through this mess. I added lime to my soil before i planted. The ph in the 4th week of flower was 7.3. In order to correct the ph, I, (read me, myself, not necessarily recommending this to anyone) have been adjusting the ph of my nute solutions to try to balance out the end ph to 6.5. My soil ph was 7.3 so i adjusted my nute solution ph to 5.8 and fed them for a couple weeks like that. Then when I really started having trouble, i realized i fed them that solution for too long and my runoff was now reading 5.8. So now I fed them a nute solution of 7.2 a couple days ago, right after a good flush. Yesterday, i gave them a lite (800 ppms) nute solution ph'd at 6.8. The next one will be at 6.5 and I will consistantly give them 6.5 form here on out. I am hoping things will balance out. I will never again add stuff to my soil. B4420's method of measuring soil ph is much more accurate then just measuring the runoff. However, if your runoff is measuring that high (or low) the soil is obviously pretty screwed up.

Could you explain what B4420's method is or provide a link?

What a great article. I think all soil growers should read that article.
thank you so much, Mr Quantrill.

it doesn't list marijuana in the ph chart though. I wonder why?
