Molases is more like an energy/metabolism booster, from what i've seen.

Today was my second watering with molasses. I noticed before I watered that alot of the lower buds are showing their trics to the naked eye.

This leads me to believe that I probably will use the Fox Farms Trio mixed with molasses throughout my next grow.

i sold out and bought a quart of sweet. but it is also for the sake of experiment as this thread has started me thinking i will compare dark "grandma" molassas with my 20$ a quart sweet. i have just put some LR2 seeds in to germ. tap root should be here but tonight but i might wait till tomarow. but back to the experment. i will see which one looks better tastes better and idk feels stickier.

I've been reading about molasses on different forums the past week or so. I haven't read anything bad thing about it.

Besides being full of Carbs & its relativly low NPK ~Molasses works as a Wetting Agent helping to break the surface tension when Watering ~It also cuts down on the run off when Foliar Feeding ,You won't get those little "Prisms" of water drops that act like a Magnifying Glass causing leaves to burn.
One of the Best things about Molasses is: It a Chelating Agent~ allowing the plant to better utilize the available Nutes.
Your more likely to notice any Nute Problems sooner because of the Chelating Properties,I don't believe you can have a Carb OverDose~Just deminishing returns with over use.
I use from about the second week of veg all thru Flowering At a TBS PerGal~Bumbing it up to a TableSpoon & a Half around the 3rd week of Flowering~This is along with my regular Ferts . Good Stuff
(I use BlackStrap Molasses it has a higher NPK & More Carbs)

the number one ingrideint in sweet is cane sugar. what do you think molasses is?? its what makes cane or raw sugar brownish. also a by product of refined white sugar. they just process it until all the molasses is off the sugar and voila. white sugar aka refined sugar.

molasses is actually the first by-product from turning sugar beets into white sugar. it is basically the burnt by-product of beets, not sugarcane. then they boil it down again and that's your common pancake syrup. after that it goes through another cooking process before becoming white sugar. sugarcane makes the browish type sugar, beets make white sugar, and corn sugar has a yellowish tint.

just thought that should be cleared up a bit.

Mary Jane

I've also used maple syrup in the past to load it plant up with carbohydrates.

I'm amazed how much some of you are using these, and on the vegging side of things. Why??

Any of these(carbo load, sweet leaf, syrup, molasses, sugar cane, etc....) can carry the plant over from when you stop giving nutes until you harvest the plant.

And in the process help with the taste and smell while they continue growing strong while using up the nutes during the flush.

I don't use it at a high enough dosage that the plant would think it's still getting many nutes, and that's at a tablespoon per gallon.

So they are only needed and usually used at the beginning of the flush for one or two waterings. At least that's how I use it, and have seen a few articles on this exact same thing.

October HT magazine has an article for one that I just read within the last few weeks about this too for growing tastier buds.

Using them during the vegging side of things isn't gonna help with the taste of the buds when done flowering, and the small amount of different nutes, I'd be careful for if it will cause any deficiency signs, or overnuting with the other nutes being given.

I just use them like I said, one or two times right when the flush starts out.

I get the full benefit of the taste and smell with that few times.

I still get the clean smoking and fully flushed plants.

Don't have any extra cost for using a carbohydrate nutrient when it's not beneficial. IMHO

And less things in the mix for nutrients usually means less chances of something getting mixed up and having nutrient problems show up with my grow.

Glad to see it works out for you people giving it that much. Anyone done any tests of use vs. non use for those longer periods of time??

And please, only say you tested and your results if you really did test them. That's the only way we'll be able to help each other figure out which way does seem to work better for us.

I have some questions running through my mind already, but will see if someone has done the testing that I can ask more specifically to them.

Happy Growing to make your Buds Tastier
