PPM readings
permalink

HIgh I was wondering about existing ppm amounts in my water. I use a Hanna meter and it says my water right out of the tap is 180 ppm (distilled is 5). Is this number too high and should I go to RO water?

Also when adding nutes should I factor in the base reading of 180? For example say I want a ppm stregnth of 1000. Do I add enough nutes to get to 1000, or should I add enough to get to 1180?

Water right out of the tap at 180 is fairly decent. I'd try to grow using the tap water, letting chlorine blow off for 24 hours.

Add the tap water when calculating total nutes - the plants see those things too. So you want to make the total 1,000 in your example.

Mr.Deeez yes always add your water ppm to the total ppm.Imo i fell 180 is kinda high, the town water i use is 40ppm.Some people with high ppm water like to cut it half and half with distilled;Im not saying you have too, some people feel better about using better water;hell if i could afford it i would use all distilled.Good Luck!Stay Safe!

Your tap sounds pretty good. Go to your local water comapny's website and pull up the water analysis. See what is in there. If they are using Chloramine instead of chlorine, use RO water. Chloramine does not evaporate out like chlorine does.

Thanks for the info freak. Unfortunately I live in a small town and they don't have a website. I can call them and see if they are using Chloramine in the water. Also how much sodium in the water is ok?
